Fine margins. He was much of a muchness with Bologna away for me, absent one or two moments of quality. Had that through ball to Rogers not been overhit, it would have put a different shine on things.

Which brings it back to something paul_e was saying a while back, that with Buendia, it's the easy stuff that he can be careless with that's so frustrating.

Buendia was outstanding at Bologna with Watkins. They carried us that night when many of our players were hopeless, particularly in the first half - Cash, Konsa, Rogers. He's taking undeserved flack off the back of last night and all season in general here.

Likely we are going to need patience in the return leg so fair enough bench him as that's not his game. But let's see how Sancho does yet again when given a start....

It's not underserved at all, he was a fucking liability and lazy with it.

I was all for benching him, then Sancho gets mentioned, worse Bailey.

If you could combine Buendias eye for a pass and combativeness with Sanchos ability to keep and link play you’d have a player on your hands. Unfortunately…..

I'd be up for playing (if fit) Onana-Doug-Tielemans as the trio (with Tielemans furthest forward).

Yep
Agree, but there is likely to be an Onana shaped hole.

If only we'd signed a really good attacking player last summer, even on loan, from, say Liverpool?

Buendia couldn't pass yesterday, was was just awful. There was 1 great chance to put Rogers in will a short pass in the 1st half but over hit it. I don't recall 1 thing he did well.

In my mind, he had a stinker first half against Bologna, played well for 20 mins second half when the team was playing well collectively, and crucially made one or two moments count in that period.

If that counts as outstanding, then he was outstanding.

Had he made that pass count last night, maybe we'd be talking in the same terms.

With our 10s, it's all about "moments" and making your quality count. Last night he didn't, and I think that, rather than his general play, is the charge that should be levelled at him: the best players make it count more of the time.

You can tell with him with his 1st couple of touches if he's going to have a stinker. I used to be a big advocate of taking a couple of simple touches and passes in a game before trying anything risky, it really feels like advice he'd do well to heed.

Nail on head. I just had a feeling with his performance  in opening 20 he would have a stinker. With buendia he seems more effective as a sub than a starter.

I dont want him starting 2nd leg. He is easily bullied off the ball as well

When the alternatives are Sancho and Bailey, Buendia is like a terminator over the ball compared to those two! Let's see how Sancho goes on Sunday, I suspect he will get yet another trial and will flunk it again.

Think we will have to shove McGinn in next to Luiz to give us some legs and dynamism in there. Tielemans is starting on reputation only at the moment, try him at 10. Rogers on one side and TBC on other (whoever performs best v Spurs)! Maatsen has to come in for Digne too.

Dont agree about Tielemans at all. He was the only one calming everything down last night and retaining possession and breaking Forests mania.

I think your right about Dougie though, he’ll have to come in for Emi B next Thursday
