It’s a shame for Buendia as he tries hard. He had some good performances earlier in the season and it looked like he’d come back with a point to prove.

Unfortunately last night was a reminder of why we were trying to offload him. He was a disaster - constantly dwelling on the ball, easy to dispossess and poorly executed passes.

I'd have dragged the fucker off after 25 minutes, Digne gave the ball away and he just ambled back and couldnt be arsed to track his man, and that's without the countless times he gave them the ball.

Trying hard is a bare minimum requirement for a professional footballer.

The next step is passing to someone in the same colour shirt.

Bit of a counsel of perfection there. Let’s not set our expectations unrealistically high.

Yep I don’t think his normal effort was there. It was genuinely one of the most consistently poor performances I can remember, and by that I mean it wasn’t one of those with some good bits, but it’s a rubbish performance because of a few bad mistakes. It was consistently rubbish to the point I can’t remember anything he did well.

He's miles off what we need.  Awful passing, unaware when he's being closed down and worst of all, stupid needless fouls then throwing his arms up when the ref blows up for it.  Annoying.

A very frustrating footballer

When he is good he is very good

When he is bad - he is bloody awful and impacts negatively on the whole team

Certainly needs an upgrade in summer and move him on

Buendia is completely useless against any remotely physical/intense opposition. Unfortunately that is at least 3/4 of the Premier League.

Fine margins. He was much of a muchness with Bologna away for me, absent one or two moments of quality. Had that through ball to Rogers not been overhit, it would have put a different shine on things.

Which brings it back to something paul_e was saying a while back, that with Buendia, it's the easy stuff that he can be careless with that's so frustrating.

I don't think it's physicality that he struggles with.  He gets stuck in WAY more than you'd expect for someone his size, and often wins aerial duels he has no right to win.  I think his issue comes down to pace.  I mean his top speed and his speed over the first couple of yards, both of which are below average.  Maybe it's what you might call 'intensity', but when the game moves quickly (up and down), he struggles.  If he's leading a break, he's likely to be caught by a quicker player, if he's chasing back, he's unlikely to catch anyone.  If the game is settled in one area of the pitch, then he's fine.

Ironically, if Forest do park the bus next week, he's likely to be more effective against a team playing that way, than one willing to attack us at pace regularly.

Yep, that's why I just don't trust him being a regular, that pass last night should've been something he could do in his sleep and we'd have been in with a very good chance to score but he completely lacks composure at times.

He was poor and I'm a fan of his because he has the quick-feet and eye-for-goal ability that makes watching football fun. I think he gets more shit when he has a poor game than any other player when they've had a mare (apart from the hapless Bailey).

I'm pretty confident he'll contribute a key pass or goal before the end of the season and people won't want him shipped to Coventry as seems to be the current consensus.

Buendia was outstanding at Bologna with Watkins. They carried us that night when many of our players were hopeless, particularly in the first half - Cash, Konsa, Rogers. He's taking undeserved flack off the back of last night and all season in general here.

Likely we are going to need patience in the return leg so fair enough bench him as that's not his game. But let's see how Sancho does yet again when given a start....
