It is never because of talent that young players fall by the wayside, it is nearly always about attitude and more importantly application.
Fail to utilise the latter two and the first one is wasted.

I am concerned that we hear all the great ability stuff about Hayden but also that he is a bit "Billy big bollocks"

This will be their downfall if they do not realise it soon enough

Errr, surely it is? 99% of them don't get as far as a professional deal.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

You need both nowadays because the margins are so tight.

Badly worded but the point is there are lots of very talented players that have failed due to poor attitude and application, and I don't mean just with villa

Sometimes players hit a talent ceiling, sometimes their bodies are not strong enough, some have or develop the wrong attitude some get really shit advice from agents and family members.
There are lots of reasons players donít make it.
Itís impossible to tell if this guy will, but he could be about to make the best or worst decision of his career.

Who was the young Villa midfield player that was tipped for greatness then ended up at Bournmouth I think then faded into obscurity?

I was at a function years ago when Sid was asked who was the best young player he'd had at the club and he said Cook, that there was no way a player like him should be slumming it with the donkeys in the lower leagues, and that it was down to O'Leary why he didn't get a chance with us

That's the one.  It seemed everyone queued up to wax lyrical about his future greatness, on here at least. Plenty of ability but physical and mental fragility did for him. He's the one that stands out but there's been plenty more.

edit: his football CV is a bit sad considering what we all thought might be

He didn't make his way back out of the lower leagues though. Can't blame O'Leary for that.
