We first wore the Lion Rampant in 1878, though not sure if it was worn as a one-off, occasionally or in all our matches. I can't find any examples of anyone using it earlier, most clubs, including Villa, didn't bother with any sort of badge until well into the twentieth century.
Was surprised the other day to see that we regularly used to play in red and white as our home colours in the 1900s. For some reason the claret and blue was heavier and so not suited to the warmer months.
I rather assumed that our adoption of the lion was linked to our Scottish connections - McGregor / Ramsay - back in the late 1870's.

And secondly, didn't Millwall adopt their lion after beating us? Or losing to us? Or was it Chelsea? One of those four outcomes, anyway.

I thought Millwall’s lion badge and shirt colours was a nod to their Scottish founders. Or something

I thought so too but apparently not.

Quote from: Wiki
The club crest has been a rampant lion since 1936, which was also introduced by Charlie Hewitt. There have been many variations of the lion; the first was a single red lion, often mistakenly said to be chosen because of the club's Scottish roots. The lion bore a striking resemblance to signs used by pubs named The Red Lion. From 1956 to 1974 Millwall's crest was two leaping red lions facing each other.

Found it. I'm sure it was posted on here some years ago, can't imagine how else it would have registered in my mind.

"The passing of time has led to many popular myths regarding football clubs up and down the land and Millwall are no exception. Their ‘Lion rampant’ club crest and Lions nickname are popularly believed to have come from the club’s Scottish roots. The true origins of how Millwall came to be lions actually stems from this epic encounter with Aston Villa over a Century ago."

Looks familiar

Change the white to pale blue and the red, black & amber to claret, with a small blue gap between the stripes. That would be a lovely away top.

Or, just change the stripes to claret and blue.

Or... all claret, three shades of blue, and make it the home kit 😈

I don't mind swapping away from a lion to an animal that's genuinely brave. Lions aren't. It's a 500lb cat with razor sharp claws and teeth that hunts in packs, has no natural predators, and enjoys nothing more than a nice nap after dinner. Your average garden bird-table raiding squirrel shows more bollocks.

Honey Badger maybe? They're double-hard bastards

Absolute nutters. Although aren't hippos meant to be the world's most dangerous animal anyway? Stick with the big daft bastards.

Wouldn't work, would be too messy with the sponsor's logo.

Similarly this is one of my favourite non-Villa kits of recent years. https://www.futfanatics.net/adidas-mexico-away-2018-jersey
Would love to see it with light blue instead of green but the logo would ruin the clean design. Fine for international teams though.

I hate sponsors logos. I know that's not controversial. I would happily pay a bit more and not have one on.

I like that Mexico kit.

Same here. I liked it so much I bought one and regularly wear it for 5 aside.

That's brilliant. A mascot so shit it has to have an explanation of what it is written on it.
