We have an update from the July 28 cabinet meeting.
Birmingham City Council’s cabinet approved the Publication version of the draft Local Plan on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. It will now go out for a statutory six-week public consultation (starting no earlier than August 13) before moving toward submission to the Planning Inspectorate.21
The plan includes the positive language quoted in the article about Aston Villa:
• It designates the Witton/Aston area (around Villa Park) as a Growth Zone and “world class cultural destination.”
• It explicitly recognizes the club’s commitment to investing in the stadium, increasing capacity, and expanding activities at the site (aligning with the ongoing North Stand redevelopment and The Warehouse venue).
No major surprises or blocks emerged for Villa Park in the meeting coverage. The Local Plan supports the council backing stadium investment alongside protecting nearby historic assets like Aston Hall and Park, and delivering new homes on nearby underused land.
Post-meeting reporting (up to July 31) treats the approval as straightforward progress for the overall plan, with no indications of issues specifically affecting the Villa references. The call-in deadline was August 3, but nothing suggests it was called in.
In short: positive step forward for the council’s support of Villa’s long-term plans at Villa Park. The consultation period will be the next chance for public input.
