Interesting comment by Kevin Maguire on Newcastle being unable to compete with Spurs in part due to matchday revenue, saying that essentially to be top 10, tweak St James, to be top 4, They need to move to a new stadium. I fear we're in a very similar boat.

Unless those brand new stadiums happen to be in London, I don't think it will make that much difference.

Not sure it was bought by Lerner as surely it would have been sold/remortgaged in the Tony Xia financial panic?

Does this post from Percy suggest the club would build new homes for the affected residents - ie a stone's throw away, if they were agreeable?

^^ Let’s not forget that Villa have bought land which is slated for change of use from industrial to housing over by Aston station.

It’s sometimes cited but the land was bought a long time ago under Lerner before the academy was built. It’s the Westwood Business Park (located off Tame Road) off the side road by the academy so nearer to Witton than Aston Station.

According to a document posted on X the charge was created on 30th October 2025 in the name of 1874 Developments. I haven’t a clue what this means but I suspect you do, so the floor is yours.

Basically it was a new source of finance.

1874 developments was incorporated 17 November 2016.

I think to build the Inner City Academy but I’d need to further research.

So, they already owned it and borrowed against it?

Sorry I’ve just edited .yes, and if you look up the company you’ll see our directors are now on the board of 1874

I broadlyt afgree with the point, but Man City and Man Utd seem to do OK. It can certainly close the gap.

Unless those brand new stadiums happen to be in London, I don't think it will make that much difference.

I suspect so. Kroll are a lender and the charge means they are entitled to the land if the loan isn’t repaid.

Yes it’s the 5th charge we’ve had on it. It may actually be in the academy land itself like a mortgage.

I don’t get that at all. Moving to a new stadium won’t automatically help them unless they double the cost of attendance and hospitality. Can their fan base afford that? Some will for sure but most, no. None of this matters in any case. Tottenham is in London population 10 million or so, Newcastle is almost in Scotland, population of Newcastle, less than 330K. Newcastle are a victim of their geography. Couple that with just one League Cup in over 60 years and you have your answer. Spurs ground is an events center with more than just football going on week by week. There’s a demand for such a venue. Is there demand for an events centre in Newcastle or Birmingham for that matter, more than what’s currently there catering for it now?

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves.

I doubt we're looking at is seriously and if we are, then 10 years would be an incredibly optimistic timescale.

By that time, Emery will be long gone and Nassef & Wes will be 75.  SCR will have done it's job and we'll be back where (they think) we belong in mid-table.

As for buying the houses, the moment someone tells you that a billionaire wants to buy your house you see pound notes and expect a ransom value.  I would fully expect a CPO to be required.
