All of this is why a proper HS2 network was so important for the city, any trains that can be diverted out of new street are gold dust for local rail.

Strong agree from most on here Paul.

What happened to that midland rail hub that was going to be built, announced under last Gov and Andy Street?

I’m wary of pledges on stations but not trains

Coventry had an expensive station created at Coventry Arena but they’ve never been able to supply trains other than a non match day service. At one stage trains were suspended from one hour before and one hour after matches because of the lack of capacity.

Parker is providing pleasant rhetoric on the station itself but I wonder if the talks will be too hard to actually move people quicker.

Suspect we lost patience in the end with Euros deadlines approaching.

The Outline Business Case is being prepared by the DoT but like most non HS2 rail projects I suspect will be kicked into the long grass by the Treasury once fiscal conservative Reeves takes an axe to any Capital Spending in the upcoming Spending review.

Benfica’s full name is Sport Lisboa e Benfica (Lisbon and Benfica). The stadium was built in the neighbourhood of Luz, next door to the neighbourhood of Benfica. Hence the name Estadio da Luz.

Someone should have told Sunderland that when they copied the name incorrectly.

I was working in Middlesbrough at the time that stadium opened and they were gleeful about the name and promptly called it the Stadium of Shite. Of course our neighbours will probably call it the Birmingham Stadium or something.

Aye, I remember after a gig there waiting at that station only to be told that 'oh no, it might be a station but there are no trains running'

Inter seem to do alright too.

Yes but does the San Siro skyline stain the snow? If not, no amount of tarting-up a famous old ground is going to work.

Let's chase the Darmian.

From... er, Eamonn Holmes?

It was the closest-sounding name to 'dragon' in their squad. A poor effort on my part, I'll grant you, but there's a time bomb in the high rise.

And that station cost 3.4 million to construct.

Lovely stuff, Lee.

Legend! Even though he was Depeche-Moded up at the time, great versatility.
