My daughter messaged me yesterday asking 'was this the match where you threw the cat in the air?' It was!

This must be the most exciting cup tie I’ve ever been to. It had the lot.

From start to finish it was like a rollercoaster ride. You went there thinking we were out, 2-0 - you thought we had it in the bag. 2-1 with 3 minutes to go, you thought we were out. Even penalties took you on a similar rollercoaster ride and the relieve and joy at the end was unreal.

I was living in Paris then and played Sunday football. After the game on my way home I jumped into a phone box by St Lazard station to pay a stupid amount to call my best mate to get the score and heard it had just gone to extra time. I got home and called again and he explained we were in a penalty shootout. He talked me through the first few then I had to hang up as I couldn’t take the tension. Paced around the flat with a pumping heart and tight chest until he called me back and calmly told me we were through.

As a deputy head he was doing a lot of work with the Schools FA in Dudley and got us tickets for the final. He died of cancer just before Christmas and that day at Wembley and those long distance calls in the Tranmere game were just two of my many happy memories of him.

Without question, the best game I've ever been to in terms of emotion and being the complete package in terms of incidents and action.  I was very emotionally drained at the end of that game, something that will be hard to replicate.

What everyone else has said. Just the most incredible, exhilarating, nerve wracking, emotional and loudest game I've ever attended. And my favourite.......

I still think Dalian thought we needed another one to force extra time when he scored because of the way he went to get the ball out of the net with no real celebration.

Up there with being the best game at VP i've been to.
Still feel for the Tranmere fans, they must have had the same roller coaster ride of emotions as us, but came out on the losing side.
Any fans that say they don't care about the League Cup are missing the point, the journey to get here was also incredible, all away ties, the Bosnich penalty save at the Sty, Sunderland away, Arsenal away, Spurs away.
Great memories.

Bozzie's saves at Sunderland were some of the best I've ever seen from a Villa 'keeper.

We were outplayed for stretches of the game, but won 4-1!!

That Tranmere games has to be up there with the most nerve wracking games we’ve been a part of. Had everything across to legs. But it’s funny or maybe not to see how that game would have been adjudicated today. Think of the incredible passion and emotion and then just imagine if the current rules or VAR were being applied. Bosnich doesn’t make the penalty shootout because he’s likely sent off for the foul on Aldridge. Doesn’t even get booked. In the shootout how many penalties would or wouldn’t have been saved for the keepers coming off the line? I’m sure there are other current day infractions but football really was so much better with less involvement from technology. Yes errors were made but football today is being killed by over officiating and technology.

On this date 24th March in 1996 we beat (Thrashed) Leeds 3-0 in the final - Savo!

On 27th March 1994 we beat Utd 3-1 (Big Ron's Claret and Blue Army)

Lets hope it is not too long before we win another major trophy (just hope it is the FA Cup)

Fantastic memories.
