If a genuine current European giant came in with an acceptable bid this summer, a Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Im sure he would of gone, like probably any of our players, so what? If your place of work said they need to cut back on staff and you was on the list of possible to be let go you'd immediately look for jobs elsewhere. It was widely know failure to qualify for champions league meant some players would need to be moved on and Martinez was on that list.

To say he wanted to leave is not true in my opinion, you don't cry about leaving a place you want to leave. When I've left a job that I've wanted to leave I've done so skipping with a massive smile.

A positive result may have given us some riches which would have been great. It?s highly likely those riches wouldn?t have given us a trophy. So you could equally say not getting a positive result there was in fact a positive result.

Yes it was before the Man Utd game but the point still stands because qualification was far from guaranteed given that we all knew the score that failure would mean losing someone so everyone knew that could have been his last game at Villa Park as a Villa player. Again you don't cry if you want to leave,  if he wanted to leave what else was he crying about having to suffer 1 more game with us?

Whether he is open to playing elsewhere or not, he clearly loves it here, and he's ours until anybody shows the faith in him to pay what he's worth.

He?s absolutely one of the best - if not the best - goalkeepers in the world, his attributes are vital to the way we play, he?s been with us through an extraordinary period in which he has been a massive part of the club on and off the pitch, he is one of the most recognised footballers on the planet, he repeatedly said in the past - in the wake of winning the World Cup lest we forget - that it would mean so much to win something with Villa, and when he did do that three months ago, was crying at the final whistle.

All stuff that seemingly gets forgotten very quickly. It?s like we?re not worthy self harm.

Speculating idly here, but it may have been suggested to him by his employers that the club would not be unhappy to see him move on, provided the transfer fee was sufficient.
