There isn’t one quote that suggests he has ever wanted to leave. I’m firmly in the camp that the club needed to move players or salaries post the Man U shambles game and missing out on CL and his agents sought options. But he’s been exemplary in how he’s always talked about us and played for us. Sure like every player he’s had poor moments but the criticism he gets isn’t warranted. We have had the best years of the best keeper in the world.

ManU pissed both the player and us about last summer with deciding last minute to go in a different direction when all was believed he was going. It seems this season we have learned our lesson and decided to pull the plug on any deals (at least for Martinez) early if the valuations were never met.

It obviously helped being in the CL as it provided us the additional leverage not to accept anything ludicrous. And seemingly what Juventus offered was very much that.

It's not his fault the club told him that if they get good offers in they will have to listen to them, because of our financial situation, esp with UEFA. So rather than wait, his agent went looking for a decent job for him....it's not his fault ManU showed interest. What club wouldn't?
The Juventus thing was always a load of nonsense when they weren't prepared to pay more than £8-10m.
He's a brilliant part of our team/squad and long may he be so.

He has said it on the podcast with Dan and joked about it again on the most recent one that he basically wanted to leave. He laughed about it when Emi said what he said on the bus in a 'yeah, right' type of way. I don't personally give a shit.

I’d struggle to find it now. It was an inside account of what happened at Bodymoor Heath last summer and had clearly been briefed by the Club. At the time several on here said they never wanted him to play for the Club again. Several others said it would soon be forgotten once he played again. He was rested from the first Villa match (Newcastle ?) because his head wasn’t right.

I think everything stems back to winter 24/25 when we were really struggling and couldn't put two passes together. Emi probably thought the dream of winning something at Villa was over, as did many fans but it was at this time he probably thought he'd have to move on so changed his agent for Jorge Mendes.

Obviously things picked up, we had fun in the Champions League and climbed the table only to miss out on qualifying again due to goal difference. Financially we were in trouble if we wanted to bring new players in and I guess a few of the higher earners/older players were told whilst we'd like to keep them if a big offer came in we would have to consider it. Emi had his tears whilst Mendes rubbed his hands together, afterall buying and selling players is how he makes his money.

This summer was pretty much a repeat, as we've seen with Rogers, everybody is for sale at the right price. Fortunately for us, Juventus could neither afford to buy him or pay his wages. Maybe a longer contract was the only attraction but any deal also had to work for us and it didn't.

Emi being grateful for the support & guidance from Nassef Sawiris has me thinking that when the time is right Emi (and Mendes) will get a very big payday in Saudi. Until then I'll continue to love him every time he puts on a Villa shirt. Even this summer with his Argentina shirt when those around him were losing their heads he did the club proud with his behavior. What's not to love?
