Aston Villa club sources have made it clear Emi Martínez will not be allowed to leave for €6/7m — they’ve asked for a higher fee, & see him as one of the world’s best keepers. They’re also happy to keep him.
@FabrizioRomano

I believe that noise I hear is Fabrizio back-pedalling.

He's gone from being somewhat reliable at the beginning to a bit of a look at me twat. All these breaking news types are some degree. I still Ornstein and Tanswell, the Athletic as they are bit more measured when they come out with something. They can be wrong also but they are not flashing some big Here We Go bollocks.

Well, good. Because letting Martinez go on the cheap would be stupid.
Yes, absolutely stupid.

So stupid, in fact, that I really do have to wonder how such rumours manage to get any traction what-so-ever, given that everyone and their dog knows about Villa's battles with the various financial rules over the last several years.

Ultimately he goes nowhere unless the price is met. Anything else is just noise. In keeper terms and his value to us I wouldn’t accept anything less than £30m but that entirely depends on length of contract and whether we’re willing to negotiate.

Oh and Juventus can keep making all the noise they want, pay the money or shut the fuck up you skint pricks.

I see no value in us selling him unless it’s a ridiculous offer. He leaves too big of a gap.

The casual way people talk about selling Martinez for 10m makes my brain leak out my ears. It just doesn't compute. He has five years left at the top level and three years on his deal. I wouldn't even sell for 50m.

It's properly bizzare.

Yep, integral part of the trophy-winning spine.

At his age decline can set in rapidly so no one is spending big, especially on one that kept pulling out of games. I'd keep him as his value to us is higher than his transfer value. That said he may want to leave, or we may be fine with shfting his wages and taking the last chance to get an ok fee.

The reason his wages are high is because he’s the best player we’ve got

Yeah, and he's not just 'a goalkeeper', he's a fundamental part of how we start attacks.

Yep and I reckon he’ll still be class for at least a couple of years. The value just isn’t there to sell him. He leaves too big of a gap.

I just do not see how we replace him whilst Emery is there and he is fundamental to how we set up and play.

He could conceivably play until he was late 30's almost 40 - absolutely keep

£150k a week isn’t that much these days anyway.  Struggle to replace for much less.  I suspect he’s on more.
