Juventus not being able to afford £8.5m in a world where Bournemouth and Brentford are buying players for £40m is interesting.

Should we be making bids further their players if they’re skint? Anyone we fancy?

They're not skint, they just want him on the cheap, same with Allison who told them to do one. They want Randal Kolo Muani from PSG for €20m + add-ons, Bayern Munich’s Kim and Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka. They're not flush having missed out on Champions league but they're not yet a charity case.

I'm with Mellin, Emi is far too important to be giving him away. Plus, how much will it cost to replace him of equal quality? It doesn't make either financial or footballing sense.

Giovanni Carnevali (Juventus CEO): “Emi Martínez is playing (at the World Cup) so we have to wait & see. He is a goalkeeper who interests us. However, I reiterate what I said earlier regarding Juventus — there could be many opportunities. We need to evaluate things carefully, especially right now, given that the valuations for some players are excessively high, unrealistic figures.”

Are we still the only club in football history that has ever been done for tapping up?

They have the opportunity to search down the back of the sofa for a few lost euros.

Nah, it's happened a few times. Chelsea and Ashley Cole when he moved there from Arsenal being quite a big one.

No - you’re just looking at a quality of player that’s outside your means.

At least they signed him.

Juventus are surely a less appealing prospect these days than 5-10 years ago when it was pretty much a guaranteed Scudetto. I don't think them being cheating  horrible ****** matters as much to players.

I’d understand it more if he went to Saudi or MLS. Juventus and Italian football as a whole is in a poor place.

Maybe he wants to play in Italy considering how much Italian influence there's been in Argentina.

I don't think any move is about money.  My hunch, is he wants a club that will boost his profile and potentially feather his bed in retirement.

As a World Cup winner with Argentina I doubt that’ll be too much of an issue for him.

Like has been mentioned before, perhaps he just wants a change before he winds down his career. He's only really played for us and Arsenal, so we're the only decent place he's ever lived and worked. Who can blame him for wanting to experience living and working in a different culture while he can?

Also, he probably really likes lasagne.
