Me grandmother lived in Canada as a child, and it was apparently full of Scots at the time. I'm not sure why, but imagine it might have something to do with the whole "not banning booze" thing, unlike their ridiculous neighbours.

I thought it was the 'bastard elk' that were a problem in Canada?

That must be the inspiration for “There’s a moose loose about this Hoose” (Hoots Mon). Bastard Elk doesn’t quite work does it?
