I disagree, when you are shipping goals left right and center it doesn't help to give the opposition another one for free. Emery is right, the amount of goals keepers have scored through history is miniscule. This is a very, very, very low percentage play and if it's something he's not been told to do I understand why Emery, who was already angry at players not carrying out instructions. We need to be smarter. We're a proper dummy team at times.

Emi’s distribution yesterday was piss poor, I can’t say I’m that arsed about if he goes up for that corner or not, it’s a stick or twist scenario. More of a concern was having a left footer curl the ball away from where all our players were massing, shite.

We're going through a shitty run but I find it bizarre that people are calling him a clown and saying get rid. Other than maybe 4 teams in the league he'd go straight into the starting 11 of all the others. Of all the names that have been been mentioned, he's better than all of them. Pickford, Raya, Henderson, that shitty kid at Leeds, he pisses all over all of them.

He's brilliant and I hope we keep him, but I think he needs to tone down the attitude just a tiny bit and concentrate on his job. It feels like he's losing that laser-focus a bit, by overdoing the time-wasting and  generally being a bit too cocky. His distribution has been crap lately.

Still, better to have an over-confident goalie than a shitting puppy, I guess.

I would have preferred him not doing it but I'm not too bothered about it. But it was not a spur of the moment thing which he has admitted himself. He did it at Copa too and was basically in a bet with his team mates about whether he'd dare to do it again at the World Cup.

No, but even by the usual over reactions this one is uber bizarre.

He's earned us many, many more points than he's cost us. He's our best player IMO and would be the hardest to replace by a long shot.

Well there’s an obvious answer to that, it’s clearly a massive risk. The key point here is that if you’re losing and injury time is already up what does it matter? If there’s the slightest chance it might help why not give it a shot? It’s obviously incredibly unlikely to result in a goal, but it does happen. Worst case scenario you concede another goal, but so what you’re already going to lose if you don’t score.

That’s my take on it too. It’s the equivalent of the ‘Hail Mary’ it comes off or it doesn’t.

It's perfectly understandable to see a keeper go up for a corner or free kick in the last minute or two of a cup game, where you're about to go out, or in a league game that has a huge amount riding on it (last game of the season, and you need a point for Europe, for example).  But in a league game in mid Feb? Absolutely not.  If the third goal hadn't gone in off his head, and it wasn't against this old team, I don't think he goes up for that corner. I think it was a rush of blood based on his 'own goal' and the hope he could correct what he sees as a mistake.

If Jorginho's goal went straight in the top corner, he's doesn't go up for that corner. How many times have we been a goal down in the last minute with an attacking set piece or the chance to put it in the mixer? How many times has he done it before?

I'm amazed no one from the bench stopped him after he crossed the halfway line.

When I read that Emery had called him out for going up for the corner I thought it was probably just an offhand comment that didn’t mean to much

But when I saw the interview on match of the day he was proper pissed off with him

One thing I slightly disagree with Emery about is that it's not just about the goalkeeper scoring, but creating confusion in the box as there's someone unmarked. There has to be a time and a place for it. Liverpool wouldn't have qualified for the Champions League the other year if Allison hadn't come up for a corner against Albion.
