As Risso has stated their Chairman said we didn't make an offer and we can pontificate all day around ifs and buts BUT we did not make an offer to tempt them to sell. That's the crux of it. Once again we are NOT striking whilst the iron is hot.

Bottom line is no one is bigger than the club - if he wants to go let him.  The issue then is that we need to get to competent keepers in, as not only to fill his spot but also a decent back up.

There's an awful lot of making stuff up going on here. People seem to have completely ignored the bit where he says he wants to win a trophy with the Villa.
What do you expect him to say? Always comforting to pat the bull just before the bolt strikes.

So we make an offer and it's rejected...what then? Isn't that what happened with Nico Williams anyway? The fact Emery was openly mentioning "Matteo" in a press conference would suggest our interest was and is genuine.

When Man United are only able to get a Burnley flop in on loan when they have no strikers it suggests the January market was very difficult.

If Martinez really wants to go in the summer, signing the likes of Williams and Guendouzi won't dissuade him anyway.

Oh yes keep repeating what we have been doing since 1990's and achieve fuck all of nothing.
Spurs didn't let Kane go Manu  stopped de Gea when he wanted to join RM, Chelsea stopped Kepa from leaving, even Brighton stopped Caicedo.

January is always difficult, we usually get two or three fill ins because we are struggling, this time it's different, we are not in a relegation fight and Emery needs the summer to get the right players.

Martinez may have the best of intentions but is being fed by another greedy agent.

I suspect it's way more about winning things than it is money.

Gerrard started well, which shut a lot of us up, and he was given a chance. It didn't take long for that to unravel though. Do you think the same will happen with Emery? Because I don't believe it for a second. We look like we're trying to play football, and that we know how to do it.

Emery is a great manager, potentially the best we've had in 20 years. But he's not a miracle worker, and even if he gets say 20-30% more out of the curent crop of players, that's still only really going to see us around the mid table places. Even with how good he is, he's bollocksed up both cup games horribly, and now he's giving it the old "our only remit is to stay up" nonsense, so he's got plenty to do yet to prove his mettle.
And if he has been told that we have enough now to stay up it could unravel very quickly, as it would be very demotivating for a top coach like him.

There is no doubt about that. Agent has probably told him that there is a queue of CL clubs waiting to snap him up.

Of course you have to try and improve all the time but I don't see the point in just buying anybody. I get the feeling that's not how Emery would want it anyway. And like I said, I doubt very very much Martinez will choose whether to leave based on last month's transfer window, which you keep bringing up.

Thing is though you accused me of “bitter nonsense” when your retort is unsubstantiated conjecture. Maybe it wouldn’t have changed his mind, but had we shown we were ambitious in January (when we were 3 points off a European place) would it give a player more confidence in direction of travel? I suspect so. As for we’ll get our targets in the summer, maybe, or is that just optimistic nonsense?

We stopped Dougie. If the players really pushes it, and wants to disrupt they will always get their way, not say whether Emi will do this or not, time will tell on that.

But...but we will be the ONLY club looking for players in the summer...honest. Jan is difficult  you can't get anyone in, that's why Chelsea 8, Forest 8, Wolves 6, Bournemouth 6 have only managed to get so few.

Forest, Wolves and Bournemouth all needed to. West Ham did to. Chelsea just bought a load of players most likely without consulting Potter (who they'll sack eventually anyway).

You could say we needed to, too - especially having packed off our top scorer.
