That's one of the best saves I have seen a Villa keeper make. Up there with Gyzan against QPR infront if the Holte.

Literally came to post "it wasn't quite Guzan vs QPR, but it's next in line after that one"

Brilliant save from Emi. Good to see him back to his best.

Voted 52nd best player in the world in the Guardian. Hilariously, that's nine places above a certain ex player of ours. (And one place ahead of Real Madid's Courtois which is pretty good going)

What they said:

"With goalkeeprs, it is not just what they do but how they do it. Martínez makes improbable saves all the time but his personality is what makes him extra special for club and country. His leadership skills helped to tighten the defence at Villa, with whom, in his first season, he equalled a club record for the number of clean sheets kept in a Premier League campaign. Then he went to the Copa América and inspired Argentina to victory, memorably making three saves in the penalty shootout win over Colombia in the semi-final after sledging the takers. “Martínez is fundamental,” said none other than Lionel Messi in September. “When opponents come at him, he always has an answer.”

Mahrez is also above the ex-player  ;D

However, the list loses much of its credibility by including Luke Shaw

Can someone please tell me what it is with Luke Shaw that I'm missing? Apart from the shirt he wears?

He's a capable full back with fitness and positional issues. He'd be lucky to make it that high in a list of the 100 best footballers in Manchester.

I can't I'm afraid.  He always strikes me as being a slightly above average full back and that's it.

I hope Martinez doesn't have a release clause.  And McGinn.  Because they will be sought-after in the summer.

I'm always surprised with Friedel's enduring popularity on here...I thought he was no more than ok. David James, FA Cup final error aside, was very good for us I thought. Sam Johnstone was a brilliant shot stopper for us too.

No disputing the first two. Bosnich made impossible saves seem possible at his best.

Sam Johnstone was a decent shot stopper but his overall ability is a long way behind anyone else named in your post or the one you're quoting. First choice at a yoyo club is about right given his ability (which I'd say isn't all that much more than Steer).
