Guzan for about 18 months was excellent and made the best save I have ever seen live against QPR. Then he just seemed to forgot that he was a GK after that.

Bosnich was an incredible stopper, but his kicking was too weak to place him ahead of Martinez I think.

Yeah he did have that one weakness although i seem to remember it getting noticed more when he joined Man Utd. Put it this way, Martinez's season last year was the best GK season i've ever seen at the Villa but i'm always a little reluctant to put him at the top of the tree after just one year, especially as a GK who we know can go off the boil. I really can't see it happening with him though i must admit.

As for the worst, i think it's probably got to be poor old Enkels but i think the Croatian bloke we currently have on the books must be close especially considering he wasn't particularly cheap either. Edit: And especially as i can't even remember his name. :-)

....and he never did learn how to kick a ball

The Second Captain's podcast: "I feel as though that display by Martinez is a legendary moment in football history that will be remembered in 20 or 30 years". Well worth subscribing to it, by the way, it's a fantastic podcast.

Rimmer is, without question the best keeper we’ve had in my time following the club. Probably the best we’ve ever had.

Sorry John but that’s ridiculous. Sam Hardy was widely regarded as the best keeper ever when he was playing. They’ve all got a way to go to match that.

Nobody mentioning David James? He was great at commanding his area and not bad with his feet (as far as I remember).

Rimmer was a God for me after years of watching Jim Cumbes.

David James’s ability to both keep us in a match, then chuck us out of the match will always mean he won’t be rated as one of our best keepers.

Bit hard to judge when not even brian green or Rudy Can't Fail are old enough to have seen him play! ;)

Premier league era Brad Friedel has to be up there
I didn't mind Friedel - he made the standard saves look good - but so much went past him without him even diving.

Bosnich and Emi are the best we've had since 92.

Didn't mind James either.

Absolutely love Emi. Excellent goalkeeper, commanding his area creating confidence in the players in front of him, and is full of personality. He’s the kind of keeper we’ve been missing for far too long.

On a side note, another reason to despise Sky and their rewriting of football history…on their analysis of the penalty award and miss, Bosnich is interviewed with the caption “Manchester United 1989-1991 and 1999-2001”. These are Bosnich’ career and appearance stats for Man Utd and Villa:

Man Utd:
1989-1991 (3)
1999-2001 (23)

Villa
1992-1999 (179)

Why is it that his 26 appearances for Man Utd over a 4 year period are recognised more than his 179 appearances for Villa in 7 years?!

My love for Emi went up a notch with that pre-penalty sledging and post penalty shimmy to the Utd fans behind the goal!

Absolute geezer!

This.

We've been saying for years how we needed a horrible bastard on the pitch and now we've got one. And even better, he seems like an absolute diamond off it!

Sorensen often gets forgotten about and was reliable. Not of the Martinez and Bosnich standard, but if we're talking about James, Heaton and Guzan, we should definitely be talking Tommy.

I’d be negotiating a new contract. I know it’s early, but he is one of the best keepers in the world.
