Surely he wouldn’t choose Brighton over the Villa....

Good news. Seems like a very good signing.

Mail saying Heaton shocked we are after a new number 1. He's 35 soon, and just had a cruciate injury, we would be mad not to cover that.

I think Heaton is right to feel a bit aggrieved. But this is a business and while I’m sure as a club we are sympathetic not doing what is right by the club would be immensely foolish. A very good keeper is available and we acted. Heaton realistically wouldn’t be fully available until November so that would leave two months with Nyland or Steer. That would have been incredibly irresponsible on our part.

Heaton needs to suck it up. This is what big clubs do, if there is an opportunity to improve any position it should be taken. If he wants that No1 jersey he’ll have to fight for it which is how it should be.

When was the last time we had two genuinely good keepers competing for the shirt?

It could be a bit of Mail shit stirring. They're not that positive when it comes to us.

Ashley Preece is generally pretty balanced. It's not that hard to believe that Heaton would be a little surprised but like I said we acted quickly to get this done. Those injuries are hard work to come back from, and especially for a keeper where you need maximum agility.

I'm glad we're signing Martinez but can totally understand if heaton feels aggrieved. Wouldn't blame him in the slightest.

Guzan / Friedel, back in the days when Guzan was good.
