I'm sorry to hear Matty Cash shagged your wife, drank your favourite beer and proceeded to reverse over your cat on his way out.

Cash has been superb this season, and it's his first in the top flight. If he improves next year in a similar vein to Targett, he's going to be England's first choice and rightly so.

Incidentally, I think Targett deserves a call-up.

I've only just read this thread for the first time (I think) since the days after we signed him, for the reason that my thoughts are that he's solid-if-unspectacular, so there can't be much of interest to read about him. I then kept wondering why the thread has been at the top of the list all day. It turns out that I was right about Cash, but that some of the posters on here are way more 'interesting'.

I hope you’re right. I somehow doubt that will happen though.

I like Cash but he's miles away from an England call up in my view.

Agree but after his first premiership season he is moving in the right direction

And the England manager has mentioned him directly so he must be making an impression.

Absolutely, just think back to the criticism Targett was receiving (unfairly in my opinion) last season. Many thought he wasn’t good enough. Now he’s probably very close to a call up.

Cash has had a great season and his game has been noticed by pundits and others away from Villa and his stats are excellent. It’s his first season in the top flight and he’s not long been a full back either. He’s made mistakes, yes, hasn’t everyone in the team? Even Martinez has had a couple clangers to his name. Ollie has too. I remember in the first few games last season Jack carelessly giving the ball away near our box which lead to us letting in a goal.

Lest we forget, this is only Cash's second season playing at right back. The lad has done nothing except impress especially when for the the majority of games he's had next to no support from the teammate in front of him.

He would do better playing for Poland which I think he qualifies to represent through his mother.

It's not Cash's fault that England have strength in depth at right back. You wouldn't begudge him opting for Poland but Southgate did mention him the other week when he was talking about the choices he has in that position.
