Dean is wise to bring in someone experienced to assist, as the job can diminish lesser men. The taming of the Shrewsbury manager many years ago is evidence of this.

Cut him some slack. The temp is regularly north of 30c these days, June was springy in comparison.

Astronomical summer begins on the solstice and ends on the equinox, so midsummer would be somewhere around 45 days later, 6th of August-ish. Obviously, these dates are all advanced by about 3 weeks for meteorological summer, but where'd be the fun in that?

Turner was tamed more by Ellis's actions. We hammered QPR 5-2 towards the end of his first season.Rideout ,a really young striker, had scored 14 in 28 ,and I thought we would prosper the next season.I presume Ellis was behind the decision to sell Rideout and Cowans to Bari.Rideout was replaced by Stainrod and Andy Gray for whom sadly it was one season too far . Steve McMahon  and Cowans  were replaced by that Vile Spawny Bastard,Hodge.
Relegation was avoided but it was inevitable. It was a poor team and a threadbare squad beyond  Turner's ability and McNeil's interest.
SGT struggled for 2 years until the return of Cowans and the signings of God and Platt aided his managerial acumen.

Small point of order, Platt was signed in the February of the second division season.

Trying to sum up the problems that SGT inherited. It's  when you look back and see the outcomes that some judgements can be (re)assessed.I feel Turner has been castigated because of Villa's transfer policy where  cost cutting seemed the main concern.I'm not sure about the exact fees but I think Cowans and Rideout went for £500k,Stainrod and Gray came in for less than half.Foster and Ormsby sold ,Gibson went for £275k and Elliott in for £400k. Hodge in for McMahon at a fairly similar fee.
Mortimer,Bremner and Withe also went.We had Dorigo and Daley as part of the team,A more positive transfer policy and the traumas following Turner's first season might have been avoided.

Good appointment.

An old boss of mine (Baggies fan) used to date Shakespeare back in the 1980s.

It was the era of the Big Hair, she said he got through more spray than she.

That's the best ITK we've had for quite some time. And useful too.

Anyway, did anyone notice if this was announced on the Twelfth Night after the season ended?

Are we going to have three assistant coaches?   What happens to O'Kelly and Terry?
