This I find fascinating goes in with my line of thinking and is good barometer.

I've included the most useful stuff below if don't want to read the whole article which talks about winning league and top 4...

Historical Premier League data shows the extent to which the division has changed over the last three decades, and how much we will know about the 2020/21 campaign after just 10 games.

THE BATTLE TO STAY UP

The dominance of the same teams at the top of the Premier League has made things even more random at the other end, where teams are well-matched and a fast start to keep pace is not so necessary.

Even a dreadful start to the season does not mean that survival is a lost cause.

Since the Premier League became a 20-team division in 1995, two of the three teams with just three points on the board after 10 matches have stayed up Ė Crystal Palace in 2013/14 and Newcastle in 2018/19.

The average finishing position for teams in 20th place after 10 games is 17th, with 11 of the 25 teams to have been there managing to avoid relegation.

Teams occupying the last relegation place in 18th after 10 matches, meanwhile, have a 60 per cent chance of survival. Fifteen of the 25 teams to have been in that position since 1995 have stayed up, five of which changed their manager midway through the season.

Clubs hovering just above the relegation zone after the opening weeks of the season are vulnerable, though, perhaps because they donít take the same action to arrest an unconvincing start.

Teams that end up slipping into the relegation zone by finishing 18th in the Premier League average a league position of 15.64 after 10 games before dropping down the table.

Sixteen of the 25 teams to have finished in 18th since the 1995/96 season were outside the relegation zone at the 10-match mark, while Charlton (1998/99) and Bournemouth (2019/20) were in the top half and still went on to be relegated.

The tipping point between possible and likely safety is six points. Teams with between three and five points after 10 matches have stayed up 42.3 per cent of the time, while sides with six to eight points have secured safety on 55.7 per cent of occasions.

As unpredictable as the relegation battle is, it is possible to ensure your Premier League status inside the first 10 matches.

No team with 15 or more points after 10 games has ever gone down, while teams with between 12 and 14 points have a better than 90 per cent chance of survival.

But, while the uneven distribution of resources in the Premier League has reduced the margin for error at the top, the unpredictability at the bottom still remains.

Do you think we can ? So vital we won that first match !
This would be 14pts plus our 3 already !

9 out of 10 to play let's say
Away win : Fulham 3pts ,
Home Wins: Leeds, Brighton, Southampton 9pts
Draws: West Ham , Arsenal 2pts

Defeats
Liverpool home
Leicester away

Fulham will definitely be targeting our game next Monday as a 'win' game; both because of our poor season last time out and because they beat us in the cup last season.

Anyone have an idea the earliest date we could play Man. City this season? Next few weeks would be ideal given their lack of CBs and strikers but guess that won't be possible with international break and europe restarting.

Yes good question. I've run through this.
Sure. Well the issue of course is Man City. And they have Champions League commitments.
Which takes up every midweek slot available in October , November !

The only way the fixture gets played this year is if Man City and Villa lose in the EFL cup and then would play the week when quarter finals are played.

So earliest would be December 22nd/23rd and only if BOTH villa and Man City were out of the league cup.

The next availability would then be if neither side reaches the EFL Cup Semi final in early January 5/6th.
Or then the next free midweek is around the 19th /20th January.

So it's at least a 2 month wait .
The rearranged match can't be made before December and likelihood it's January if not later.

And into February haven't covered the permutations on fixtures and man city Europe but it's very congested whenever it fitted in.

And maybe put back to towards end of season?

Just push it back to the end of the season and we can have a last game title decider like 1989.

One next Sunday at Home to Liverpool.  People would sit up and take notice if we win that.
Would be great as Villa have gone under radar but big things can happen this season.

Why not Villa with everything we nearly achieved so many times against top teams now with the experience and added quality we get the points can be much further up the league.

This season is unlike any other and with our rivals having European competition  and plenty of matches can boost our own chances of a high place finish.

Certainly likes of Everton and Leicester will be looking to achieve so let's go for it Villa!

Prem Season so far and look how we've improved from last season !
9 PTS from 9 PTS

Beat 10 men Vs Sheff Utd .
Won at Fulham like we never won there and Finally a Clean Sheet away from home ! Never achieved last season and for a longgg while in Prem!
Oh and tonight we only go and take the lead just about hold on and beat a top 4 team . Sorry beat and absolute hammered the heck out of the champions.

Fixtures are futile .

We'll beat them all !

Enjoy the international period everyone !
It's a shame there's a break after being on such a high

Up the Villa
