Lisbon is fucking brilliant.

Went there a dozen plus times in three years in my last job, and I love the place, but in the last of my visits there were definite signs of it being badly impacted by the mass tourism brought on by becoming a trendy destination in recent years.

As for graffiti - it's nowhere near as graffitied as Italian cities.

I know a few golf enthusiasts who enjoy golfing trips to Portugal.

I also know quite a few middle-aged married men who are enthusiastic about their "golfing" trips.

How ridiculous that the champions league final is moved from Turkey to Portugal rather than the UK?  12000 fans potentially travelling to Portugal rather than 2000 lackeys and uefa hangers on heading to uk.

I remember going to Lisbon for the first time in 1980.  It resembled the shanty towns of Sao Paulo then.  I've been a few times since and have always managed to stumble on something I hadn't seen before, the last time 4 years ago we were persuaded by a lad hustling for business to take a ride with him in his 'Golfing cart' instead of the tour bus which we did.  He took us everywhere in the city but nothing wowed me like the Alfama communal washing area in the old part.  Still in use and going strong.  The sense of community among the people using the facility was wonderful, they were poor people but they seemed well happy with their lot to me. It's a shame the area around there is getting gentrified.  Lisbon doesn't want to lose that or those people.

I think it's good as they were talking about moving the playoff final to accommodate it and I reckon most Football League club fans get more excited about playing at Wembley than Chelsea or Man City fans do.

Without wish to present a note of snobbery and stereotyping, and I appreciate we are all football fans on here, I can't help feeling a bit sorry for the people already booked to be visiting Porto at the time the game is now going to take place there, who had been looking forward to a restful break, and now finding out they will be sharing the city's culinary and cultural delights with 12,000 English football fans intent on enjoying their own concept of a 'good time.'

The Alfama isn't getting gentrified, the locals have been pushed out by AirBnB tourists that ride around on bloody tuk-tuks! ;)

I never get tired of shouting 'Tuk-tuk wanker' as they pass by.

It couldn't happen to a better place. ;)

I realised reading this that I don't give a stuff either way. Fuck 'em all.

Surely the most pandemic responsible location would have been somewhere roughly equi-distant between the two clubs, with the history and grandeur befitting Europe's showpiece occasion........

Far too sensible. That sort of rational thinking will never catch on.

One of very few times I want Man U to win. Can see Liverpool being awarded the points if there is no more room to play the match this season.

Elmo on for Cash. Hope he's alright. Somewhat limits our options, for those of us who wouldn't mind seeing Chucky, Super Jack and Weseliño.
