The only improvement to VAR has been the referees finally being less stubborn regarding looking at the monitor. They still often get it wrong in my opinion but I do prefer it when they go and have a look at least.

Refs weren't being stubborn, as I understand it Mike Reilly had decreed that they would not use the monitors because he thought it would delay he game too much.  The massive twunt.

Within the rules, it was a pen.

The rules are the argument.

Personally I quite liked seeing Jose throw his toys, are there any left in his crib.

Arguably Newcastle should have been given a penalty a few minutes before the one they were given, when a similar thing happened, also with Carroll/Dyer.

It will be interesting to see how many penalties the likes of Andy Carroll will win through dead ball kicks just slung hopeful-like into the box, when defenders will be challenging with no real hope of getting first contact on the ball.

https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct
Handball rule....

It is an offence if a player:

deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, including moving the hand/arm towards the ball
scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
after the ball has touched their or a team-mate’s hand/arm, even if accidental, immediately:
scores in the opponents’ goal
creates a goal-scoring opportunity
touches the ball with their hand/arm when:
the hand/arm has made their body unnaturally bigger
the hand/arm is above/beyond their shoulder level (unless the player deliberately plays the ball which then touches their hand/arm
The above offences apply even if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close.

Except for the above offences, it is not an offence if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm:

directly from the player’s own head or body (including the foot)
directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close
if the hand/arm is close to the body and does not make the body unnaturally bigger
when a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to support the body, but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body

How is it possible for a part of your own body to make your body ‘unnaturally bigger’?

I’m not a football fan I’m an Aston Villa fan and dislike all the other teams who play the sport. On that dislike list Spurs come in at around probably 3 or 4 depending on how annoying either Liverpool or Man U are at the time.

So for me that was a tremendous decision and was slightly better than Tammy’s goal last night. They drew to a team who had no shots before that moment. The most superest of Super Sunday’s ever.

How is it that every season they seem to find a new way to interpret the rules that completely fucks things up and produces endless farcical decisions that piss 95% of people off.

Do they have a meeting where they pour over the rule book to see what they haven't tinkered with yet and how they can apply a bizarre new adaptation to it?

Will a penalty be given if, as Roy Hodgson says, a player deliberately flicks the ball up onto a defenders arm? Or would the player be booked for ungentlemanly conduct?

I never had any time for Bruce, but fair play to him for his comments on the issue.

Absolutely impossible to ever prove, there’s countless little “flicks” of the ball all over the pitch.

It's not VAR, it's the officials interpretation of the new rule. I'll guarantee how they are applying the rule was not the intention of the rule.

Last seasons goals were chalked off for innocuous handball in the build up. Now penalties are being given for innocuous handball. Neither of which were a problem with beforehand.

Clear and obvious..... That should be the yardstick
