The start of the new domestic season is probably the point to stop taking the knee in my opinion. Although with my dodgy knees I am just bitter that most people can drop to their knee and get up again easier than I can.  ;)

It'll be interesting to see if they do allow individual players to sport a BLM patch - more because of what happens if players want to put another politically-aligned symbol on "their" shirt ? Would the club / PL let them ? Does the PL then become an arbiter of what is "acceptable" politically ?

Personally I haven't been a fan of it from the beginning. I watch 22 millionaires kicking a (high-tech) pig's bladder around a field for the joy of the sport, not for lessons in morality / politics. Much more impressed by Marcus Rashford's stance and activism on free meals for kids (a defined goal, pursued off the pitch), than anything BLM-related.

No, if they are going to take the knee in London, Rome, Paris, Madrid etc. they should do it everywhere  ;)

It's not or hasn't been embarrassing but I believe the point has been made and now the season has finished it seems an appropriate time to end it being done every game. Allow individual players to wear a BLM logo on their kit if they wish and consider a league wide taking a knee before a game to coincide with MLK Day or on a Saturday in Black History month.

Agreed.

The message has quite rightly been repeatedly hammered home loud and proud and has been respected and successful in it's high profile. But the taking the knee and slogans has to end some time and the new season seems an ideal time.

Why does it have to end? Is racism sorted, now?

Will racism be sorted by footballers taking the knee for forever and a day? It reminds me of the episode of Frasier when his neighbour unveiled a huge obtrusive American flag draped across the apartment building and when asked how long he was going to keep flying it said he would keep it there until there was world peace.

If City had taken a knee at the expense of a goal it would have sent the best message.

Why should it end? If it's finished now, then it looks like a little gesture during lockdown. In front of packed stadiums, the message will resonate far more.

As for being embarrassing, I don't know where to begin, I notice there's still no reply.

But that's a bit like MLK and John Lewis walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge for the second time and saying 'Well, we've made our point now, let's knock it all on the head'.
