Nah, bollocks to em. They always raise their game against us and contrive to lose to Small Heath on a regular basis.

In any case I prefer the league to be made up mostly of teams from proper football cities (ie Midlands/North).

You're telling me you'd rather Leeds than Brentford? I like a bit of new blood in the league.

No. I'd rather Accrington or Darwen, please.

Birmingham was never a traditional football city.

based on what ?

Back in the early days there were hardly any clubs in Birmingham and the biggest place for football in the area was Wednesbury, then Walsall. Even now the city has won the grand total of one league title and two FA Cups. For the record, outside of Sheffield, football was a Lancashire rather than northern pastime. Yorkshire was a rugby stronghold and further north they were busy fighting the Vikings.

If you have a team in the first Football League, you're a proper football city/town. Bonus points if you invent it.

Birmingham didn't.

Aston (like Yardley) was effectively part of Birmingham long before its official incorporation.

Well not bastard Leeds, but they're not in competition with Brentford, and when they were, the useless Southern bastards fell apart.

Looking at the table I'll take Barnsley, nice big away end, plenty of tickets, not too bad to get to. Don't have a history of killing themselves to win matches I want them to lose and surrendering whenever I hope they win.

Effectively is not officially. Otherwise you'd have all sorts of nonsense like people in Yardley supporting Warwickshire.

And it's also a strange but true fact that the Black Country caught onto football quicker than Birmingham and Aston.

WTF was Leno doing there where he could do nothing about stopping the forward? 1-2 Benfica.

Sure, while they are technically our rivals I'm happy to acknowledge that West Bromwich and Wolverhampton are proper football towns/cities. Not like Johnny-Come-Latelies to the professional game like London and Leeds.

Again, au contraire. There were many football clubs in London in the early days. It's fascinating in an anorakial way to see how the game developed in certain areas.

I said professional. And again, I've said if you weren't in the league you don't count.

One that did surprise me, and I know it isn't London but it is Darn Sarf, was that Reading were formed before us.

Wednesbury Old Athletic were founded in the same year as us and won a trophy before we did.
