Trying to work out why we are quoting post match comments from Bruce. I don't get it.

It's other games thread, and he used to be our manager.

However as Kipppax likes to post random quotes in various threads, (related to the thread but no indication he has taken them from elsewhere), it would be nice if he pre faced them as quotes from ...... or in a quote box. Several times in another thread I have wondered why he is suddenly Anti-Villa.

If this is a direct quote, I find it amusing that he doesn't include us in his list of difficult upcoming games. Perhaps he's marked that one down as 'winnable'.

It’s Bruce quote bingo really.  The same trotted out phrases.  Learn from it etc.  This after saying they were shite last week.  Obviously learned a lot.  Oh and apologies to the intellectual property police. I will learn from my mistakes.  Unlike Bruce.

I appreciate the Bruce comments but please try and use the quote function. I was halfway though the post before I realised they were his actual quotes rather than a clever pastiche by yours truly.

I fear this is Steve’s last game in charge.  His team have given up that was appalling from Clark.

It'll be Mark Hughes to replace him won't it as the death by a thousand cuts continues?

You can only hope that if Bruce does get canned, Mike Ashley brings back his pal Dennis Wise for the job!

We gave as good as we got and got into ourselves some decent opportunities but that little bit of confidence has ebbed away - that happens when you are on a run like we are. The only way it comes back is with a couple of victories.

"We always knew we entering a really difficult run of games. To play Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool and Manchester City we always knew it was going to be difficult against these top teams.

"You have seen their [the players] approach. We are disappointed because we have been caught trying to get forward. Two passes and they are in on our goal.

"That is something we have to learn from and understand. The reason we have been defending deep was to avoid situations like that. We have to get the balance right and we will keep working on it."

On his own position, he added: "I am trying to do the best I possibly can as always but you will have to ask others about that."

"We have been caught trying to get forward". Yes Steve, that is the problem. As a manager you attack too much. Said nobody ever apart from yourself.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but given there's chat about Bruce and his bullshit comments to the press it seems to fit. Comparing the quotes from Bruce about Covid to the comments from Smith today is probably the best way to show the difference between them.

Quote from: Steve Bruce
Bruce said: "I'll keep edging us forward, we've had huge problems with sickness, illness.

"I'm no scientist, but I've seen Man City have two, and I hope for their sake they don't go into double figures.

"We're witnessing the after-effects too, and we've still got problems, it doesn't just come and go over you, it's been a factor.

Quote from: Dean Smith
“I’m not going to make any excuses for the issues. My players are ready to play against Manchester City.”

“Obviously I’ve got some players who’ve contracted coronavirus and I’ve got to check whether they’re fully fit or not," he said.

“I don’t think we’ll be hamstrung by it at all. We’ll have a few players who’ve been affected by it, but we’ve also got a lot of players who’ve had a so-called winter break.

“Some of our players needed the rest, players like Jack Grealish and John McGinn who’ve been regularly away on international duty. Hopefully it’ll do them the world of good and we can come back fresh and firing.”

One spoke concisely and pragmatically with a lot of common sense. The other spoke in riddles with a dash of gobbledegook. Which was which?

I think he looks completely out of his depth. All pretty turns and step overs but no end product.

Presumably "creating the winning goal against us" notwithstanding?
