Rick Parry, EFL Chairperson,  also called for an end to parachute payments, which he described as “an evil that must be eradicated”.  "A complete reset" required, in his opinion.

As with any daft idea proposed by business types, one has to ask the question "What does Rick Parry gain from proposing/supporting such measures?"

Hmm.

The Rick Parry that was the original CEO of the Premier League and negotiated the first TV deals that caused wages to start spiralling out of control. Twat.

If your going to have a salary cap make it a percentage of income, yes it disadvanges less well surported clubs but thet would be the case with an 18 mill cap, if you want stagnation a fixeded cap is just the job.  I know if I suppored Blues Reading Boro etc I’d be all for it. Because they feel they are unable to compete under the current system, convenitly forgetting the exploits of Sheffield Utd,

Brentford (now officially my second club) seem to have managed to compete alright without salary caps and parachute money.
This is just the football equivalent of socialism.
Level everyone down until they are equally poor.
Parry has some nerve given that he created the ever perpetuating Sky six.

If all the squads are made up of the quality of players who would command such relatively modest wages, surely that will just increase the gulf between promoted clubs and those already in the premier league. We already know that the majority of promoted clubs struggle and are relegated pretty quickly. This idiocy tries to suggest that all clubs are of equal size, regardless of income, ownership, support or anything else. Why should a club of our size commanding crowds of 35/40k (when we are allowed in!) be treated the same as one who struggles to attract 15k?

Salary cap works in US sport because of the franchise model, central contracts and no promotion/relagtion.

Hasn't worked very well so far in Rugby, which is also doing its best to create a closed shop model

Parachute payments are seen as this unfair advantage when the truth is they just about keep clubs coming down from imploding due to the large difference in income between the 2 leagues. It's really only us who went on a made spending spree when we were relegated.
