Never seen this British Movietone version before, only the BBC highlights - sorry if it has already been posted

Great to watch that again, I'd forgotten how frenetic that game was due to the abiding memory of the goals.  RIP John Robson and Gordon Smith.

I like the 1940s type commentary. One line in particular:

'Aston Villa have always been an enigma wrapped in a mystery'

They remain so.

Interesting to watch that, although the editing is something else!

I'm not sure it's editing so much as they just didn't film the whole game and have spliced it together what they have as best they could.  Missing Chris Nicholl's goal until literally the ball hits the net being a prime example.

What a game ! What memories !

Wembley was boring, Hillsborough better, Old Trafford phenomenal.

Nowadays would be settled on pens at the end of a rubbish first game.

Pass the ball back, pass the ball back, pass the ball back Everton !

The whole game is on youtube,

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8Suees3jrs

At the risk of being called an old fart, the first youtube comment is so relevant - "No rolling around in apparent agony - no diving- no arguing with every referee decision - no wrestling in the penalty box. Two honest teams trying their best to win --oh happy days."
It was a great night and a great time to be a Villa fan.

I was refereeing at that time and believe me there was arguing with every decision no matter what it was.  Anyone alive who ever watched Leeds in the early seventies will tell you all about it.

Maybe if they had argued less they would have won more trophies.

I was so pissed at Wembley I fell into a stupour and missed the game, lucky me.
Hillsborough , I went with some sensible older guys and we stopped somewhere on the way back for a couple of pints.
Went with the same guys to Old Trafford, awesome, really enjoyed the Video

It's a shame all we saw of Chris Nicholl's goal was it hitting the back of the net. I was at the game and remember being in line with him on the side terrace when he strode forward and unleashed his howitzer.

Well done. How could they have missed that cracking toe poke out! Would have hit me in the face if it hadn't hit the net so I could see it was going in from the moment it left his toe.
Love the Movietone coverage though, especially as I managed to spot myself, Dad and Sister in the coverage just before kick off. Great memories, particularly of fantastic support from both sets of fans at that game. AVFC, Aston Villa are magic!!!
