I don't have any sympathy for any club - us included - who voted to introduce the Premier League and now find themselves on the other side of a locked door.

The Premier League isn't a locked door. Were you busy in May?

As an aside, this is bad news for us. We have already played Man City twice. Doesn't help us that all their games against our relegation rivals are now literally meaningless to them.

The establishment of the Premier League meant the big clubs getting ever-greater shares of revenue and led to many of the problems that led to FFP. I'd have thought as a socialist you'd have been against such a move.

I am. I'd prefer to go back to Division 1/2/3/4. I'm against this, too, as it looks to confirm that the same teams will win the league forever more. The creation of the Premier League didn't do that.

Why on earth would you mix politics with sport? Whether you're a socialist or a conservative (other political persuasions are available) surely what ever is best for the Villa, is the best system.

Man City are amazingly arrogant still almost in a Trumpesque style. Premier League obviously have to follow UEFA’s lead and apply further sanctions against them.

No, it just meant you needed a ludicrously rich owner or income that other clubs couldn't match. The Premier League has damaged every league below it, but who cares about them?

Financially it is. FFP ensures that.

We’ve done this before.
Villa in Nazi Germany? Matthias Sindelar? Football owners with horrific human rights records? Franco’s Real?
I’d rather win fairly and yes possibly not win than win at the expense of my ethical/political  values.

There was a ripple of excitement in the pub when this news came out but I was stoic in my "it'll be overturned" stance and remain firm in that view.
See Chelsea's recent transfer ban.

Next steps.

1. Appeal.

2. Sentence reduced to a suspended one and fine.

3. Carry on regardless.

100% this will happen

If domestic sanctions on a club of the size* of Man City are enforced, should we be looking nervously?

*current, not historical.

If this gets overturned through some restriction of trade bollocks, then I'm going to start pressing for police involvement whenever Grealish gets hacked down.

This is based on those leaked documents which amounted to:

"Lol we're cheating! Muhahaha *twizzles moustache".

I don't think we need to be worried.

To be fair to Citeh, there's a deep irony that they're playing Real Madrid next, who probably more than any other club in Europe have received preferential treatment and state aid. The fudge over their training ground sale was a joke.

There are very few clubs in the world that genuinely deserve to be disliked more than Real Madrid.
