It's certainly a point for us next time we get drawn into that age-old "which club is bigger, Villa or Shrewsbury?" debate.

I wish they had been big enough to resist our bid for their waste of space shit manager in 1984.

Paul Brietner used to call us Aston Willa.

He also called us the worst team to ever win the European Cup.

Which doesn't say much about the team that lost to the worst team ever to win the European Cup.

There was footage of him being interviewed before the final saying we were a far more dangerous opponent than Liverpool as we were the only English side that played like a European team.

Reason to be cheerful?  The last time we played Man City we scored the last goal, so clearly we are the team with momentum going into the final.

It's still, like last season, exciting going to the game or watching on telly. All the games are important and mean something so the build up during the week and the atmosphere at the ground is great. If we were mid table and pretty safe the games wouldn't be so crucial and have that must win feel about them. The feeling too that knowing if we do just manage to stay up, which we will, then we could be on the start of something big happening with our new owners, their money and ffp freed up a bit.

Since I started going in 1979 I think I have seen far more top six and bottom six seasons than mid table seasons.

By my reckoning starting with 79/80, 12 top 6, 11 bottom 6, 13 other top flight finishes, 4 outside the top flight.
