Isn’t it international clearance we’re waiting for which is just a formality?

He's training, so must have work permit?

Pretty sure a player can train without a work permit.

Thought it was the opposite. Didn't Luiz have to wait to train with us until we sorted out his work permit? I recall his personal trainer posting photos during the wait.

Is he definitely eligible for the Leicester cup game?

Why would he? He trained in Manchester with City when he wasn't out on loan. Perhaps he just preferred a spell at home before his paperwork was processed for us. I can't think of any reason a player can't visit a training ground and take part in a session.

I was just considering that and came to the conclusion that the insurers would probably prohibit it.

I'd be surprised, tbh. It's not like he's using the gym at the hotel he's visiting, he's carrying on his line of work at a place of work. It's work.

Right, but by the same line of argument surely you can't register a player on payroll if he hasn't secured a work permit as he's not legally allowed to work in the country and he can't pay tax - and yet, are you going to tell me that Douglas Luiz (for instance) wasn't earning a wage while he was at Man City? There are ways around these things, I'd have thought you can declare individuals as "visitors" at a training ground without any legal or insurance wrangle.

Trying to take the piss like that is the surest way of having the paperwork dragged out, or even refused.

How could they pay him? He wasn't allowed to work in this country.

But if he's had his work permit stamped then you'd hope the club would have said something by now.

Didn't we get formal confirmation via OS (etc) when Wesley & Luiz both had their permits approved, after a period of waiting?

I'm happy to be wrong on this but as we've heard nothing from the club then you'd have to assume his work permit is still being processed.

Maybe they're waiting on clarification from the Football League as to whether he's eligible for Tuesday before breaking the good/bad news.

Just suppose a player we intend to sign popped into training and had a little kick about with the lads while his paperwork was 'catching up'. And then imagine the problems if said player broke his ankle. No insurance as he was not fully registered etc etc

Surely a player has an obligation to keep fit, even if a transfer is going through he should be covered by the selling club till that's taken over by the buying club!
How many times do you see that a foreign player, say, is injured and returns "home" for a while to recuperate and is seen training at a previous or local club? He must be covered by his parent club.
