Amazed we got the work permit sorted that quickly.
Who said we have?

It's not clear whether we have, but the Mail and a few other journalists believe he'll be signed in time for Watford, so the presumption is yes.

As a former civil servant, I will be very surprised if all is done for Tuesday and no one has hinted/said that it will be. Just that things are progressing well. I wonít expect him to be playing, but hope Iím wrong.

For the premier league Ally Samatta can score at least 5  goals this season.
And I see capabilities of him scoring 8+ goals by end of season especially if he's given penalty taking responsibilities.
Looking forward to having a goal getter up front once again in the Villa team and a real difference to making chance to win games .

When he is announced, with the shirt stretch, can we have a 24/48 punfest window to allow us all to get it out of our systems.

If we don't play Joe Dolce over the PA prior to his debut I will be gutted. It would be pure 'music theatre'.
Wasn't Joe Dolce from Sutton Coldfield? Is he still around ? If so he could sing the song in front of the Holte like that bloke singing Ynwa on the last day of the Holte terracing - against Liverpool
Born in America.
You're thinking of Rene of Rene and Renata fame!
That's the one !!!   I'm now trying to remember what their one hit wonder was :)

Renee was the woman, the geezer was Renato.  Sad that I know that I know, but there is a cafe/bar in Mere Green called Renato's with a big mural of the two of them and apparently owned by said crooner.

My Dad (who I think joined here recently) worked at Barclays in Mere Green.
Being the magnanimous West Mids footy fan, as well as (praise be, forever indebted..) taking tiny me to Highbury/Rotterdam etc, we used to borrow a mateís ST at the baggies if he was on holls & Villa were away.

We also got hosted in a box @ West Brom once or twice by one of his restaurant owning customers, I think I need to check it wasnít said Renato.
Most impressively we had plenty of scratch cards in the box, I was given them all to scratch and amazingly allowed to keep the winnings.

Nope just checked

Quote
Renato supported Aston Villa and became good friends with ex-boss Ron Atkinson.

Paying tribute, Atkinson said: ďI loved the fella, he was brilliant. He was one of the nicest guys I have met in my life. He was good natured, great to be with and we had some great wind-ups with each other on the golf course.Ē

<<<Also of interest>>>

He entered TV talent show New Faces in 1975 and caught the attention of songwriter Johnny Edward, who wrote Save Your Love.

* Songwriter Johnny Edward Ė real name John Flex Ė was the voice and creator of Metal Mickey.

* During his early career, writer Johnny Edward was guitarist in The Manish Boys, whose lead singer David Jones later became known as... David Bowie.

* Christmas top 10 1982:

1. Renee and Renato: Save Your Love

2. Shakiní Stevens: Blue Christmas

3. David Bowie and Bing Crosbie: Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy

4. Culture Club: Time (Clock of the Heart)

5. Madness: Our House

6. Phil Collins: You Canít Hurry Love

7. David Essex: A Winterís Tale

8. Modern Romance: Best Years of our Lives

9. Lionel Richie: Truly

10. The Jam: Beat Surrender

So from Joe Dolce to Metal Mickey/Bowie via BFR. Only @H&V

It's basically a bit of Four Oaks in Sutton Coldfield Brian.  A roundabout, some shops, a pub, a petrol station, a few restaurants  and a primary school.  The Renato's that's there now is in a fairly new precinct, Mulberry Walk,  so couldn't be the one frequented by BFR.  And I guess owned by Renato's family, since the big man has shuffled off the mortal coil.  It's dog and kid friendly and the mural is quite something.

He may be a complete flop and we get relegated.
On the plus side we are all a little better informed about season 1969/70 and the merits of African cuisine.

Please add locally based one hit wonders from the early 1980s and a guide to eating establishments in Mere Green.

One of the most informative threads in a long while.

1980s Mere Green eating:
Is the chippy still there? We went every Monday night without fail after swimming at Wyndley Leisure Centre for years and years, another of my Dadís customers over the road at Barclays, the owner was always very friendly.

Renatos son, Remo, owned the restaurant in Lichfield. He now works as a chef on Virgin trains. Renatos cafe/restaurant/bar is nothing to do with the family. It is owned by the following company:

https://thelounges.co.uk

Remo is a big Villa fan and his Dad was a top fella but passed some years back. He lived very close to the Bartonís, who still frequent the Mere Green bars.

Used to visit the Mere Green restaurant frequently with my parents when Renato was the "singing waiter". Sometime after he left the Mere Green restaurant, which he didn't own, he opened a restaurant somewhere in Moseley area.

Well, I cant see Samatta being signed in time for Watford, hopefully for 28 Jan for the EFL Cup Semi-Final, but you would hope even our recruitment could get it done by 1 Feb when we go to Bournemouth. Cant they?  ::)
