It's not a surprise there are ex-Man City youth players plying their trade in the premier league.  As others have said, it's the logical conclusion when you go around sweeping up the best 14/15/16 year olds from other academies. 

Morgan Rogers is a perfect example, they took from him West Brom when he was 16, and by 18 he was out on loan. Boro bought him at 20 after he's had three loans in two years. I have no doubt Man City had SOME impact on his development, but to describe him as "a product of the Man City academy" is stretching it a bit.

You can criticise Man City for their approach, but I hope it's something we're trying to replicate.  We're the biggest club for miles around, and with a huge catchment area we should be hoovering up all the talented kids in a fifty mile radius. 

The point being, with as many promising kids as Man City acquire, and first team squad of limited size, it's a statistical certainty that they will sell/lose some very good players along the way.  But if they're getting Cole Palmer money for them, I'm sure they'll be delighted. Morgan Rogers money, not so much.

EDIT: Just checked, and it seems Man City paid West Brom £4m for Rogers as a 16-year-old.  So technically, they've probably lost money on him, unless they had a big sell-on percentage when they sold him to Boro.

We've done it pretty well in the last 18-24 months or so, but will that be a one-off? Or will we be selling one or two Chukwuemeka/Archer/Ramsey Jnr/Philogenes each season moving forward?  I'd always prefer youth players making it into our first team, but if we're going to have a production line that ends in more player sales than it does players in the 1st team, then let's see it working properly on a regular basis.

I know he's not popular on here, but I think Murphy is a pretty decent pundit and as miserable as he looks he usually gives credit where it's due.  Obviously, some researcher had come up with the angle that there are a few ex Man City academy players in the PL and he trotted it out, but I wouldn't really expect a pundit to have detained knowledge of a players youth career.  It's a throwaway comment really.

Which Murphy have you watched? His problem, the same with others of his time is the bias towards the top 4-6 and his / BBC's reliance on playing for Liverpool so that means he knows more about football then others.

If we have 1 player a season come through from the academy it will have been wildly successful. On that basis if we can also get £20m+ a year by selling the ones that don't quite make it or want to move on then that's funding 1 big summer signing a season, which is a fantastic postion to be in.

I disagree.  In my view he's pretty balanced with whoever he's talking about.  Appreciate his manner isn't for everyone though.

The bit I saw praised the Man City academy rather than Pep and listed who's playing Premier League football. Doyle at Wolves, McAtee at Sheffield United, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Rogers. Quite a few are making it but it still misses the point that they're recruiting the best players from other people's academies.

Southampton got relegated last season with some of those so called high flying Man City academy players being recruiting.
Doyle and McAtee are nothing spectacular, and they are on par with those solid footballers of last season but not Rodgers who is next level.
Only Palmer and Foden can be named with any reverence.
Staggering Emery isn’t praised. Funnily enough Rodgers has said Emery calls me a championship player ! It’s a clever attempt to motivate and encourage him and remind him there’s still more needed
