For Hourihane's goal, Targett, an Aston Villa left back, hunts the ball down on the edge of the 'D'. Our first, fantastic first time control and lay-off of a dropping ball by an Aston Villa right back.

And this is why plenty of people were frustrated seeing Taylor and Elmo in the team against Tottenham. Neither of them has been particularly poor this season but they're just out-of-date. Proper modern fullbacks who are as good going forward as they are defending and who have the technical skills to play in the centre of midfield are an absolute must because they're the players who will so often find themselves with the time and space to make things happen.

It doesn’t look tremendous in hindsight but I imagine Dean felt that was a lot of new players to start all at once and that perhaps some of the ones that were here last season would have a better understanding of how he wanted to play and each other. Don’t think many predicted Tottenham being this bad before the season either.

Completely agree with the general point though. Said last week what a difference it makes having two fullbacks providing an attacking outlet. Such a key part of the way that I think Smith wants us to play.

Brilliant result on a great day for Villa! Very pleased for Wes and his 2 goals. Would love to have seen him score the pen but at least he forced the keeper into 2 saves. Pleased also for Conor and his 1st prem goal. He's now scored in each of the top 4 divisions. He's worked his way up to the top level and will have worked hard to have done so. Nakamba is outstanding! Shame about the late goal conceded, but what a great result witnessed by the future kings! UTV!

I'm not saying he was wrong to select them, just that seeing them was pretty frustrating for some of us. Guilbert came in pretty quickly afterwards and is, in my opinion, one of our best players for the season so far. Now we're seeing Targett have a similar impact.

My brother gets unbelievably wound up by that thing Elmo does wherein he never hits a cross first time, he always stops the pass, rolls his foot over the top of the ball, then hits it.

I have noticed Luiz doing similar, but it normally immediately precedes the ball nestling in the top right corner, not looping beyond the back post.
