Who/When was the last Villa outfield player to go in goal after we'd run out of subs and the keeper was crocked/red-carded?

Ricky Scimeca comes to mind but maybe that was when Smithy played with him at school.

I remember Scimeca having to play up front in a couple of matches

Under Gregory, I still think that was done just to try and force Herbert into pulling his cheque book out for a striker.

He's not very good in goal.

Phew, thought you were going to say he likes Love Island, or something of that ilk.

I'm really excited to see what he can achieve this season
and with the squad development that's taking place he'll get his chances
in the games he plays in. I'm really certain that it's going to happen for him.
I'm reminded of him coming off the bench and scoring at the Albion
right at the start of his Preston loan spell and thinking that he just seems to have the instinct
to be in the right place at the right time.
And not many players have that.Really looking forward to seeing how he gets on.
And ontop of all this he seems a genuine lad who listens and is keen to learn.
Always struggled with poems that don't rhyme tbh.
try it now to the tune of Mary J Bilge Family Affair
Ha!
I'm a poet who don't know it!

Wasn't Scimeca a striker earlier in his youth career, or did i imagine that?

Anyway, very pleased for Archer and i reckon he's going to get some opportunities with us this season.

Scimeca was indeed a striker at first. Once he made the first team he was a centre back but started Gregory's first full year upfront with Joachim until Dublin was signed and Collymore was available to play

Yeah, was reasonably prolific at youth level iirc.

It was great having a local hero in Jack...whatshisname

But imagine if this kid is the real deal and starts hitting the net on a regular basis  :P

A Jermaine Defoe clone is a great observation

Peter Withe went in goal  in the  Division One match held at Highfield Road on 13th March 1984 after Nigel Spink was injured. The match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Still better than Kalinic though.

I reminded Peter Withe of that when he was signing a book for me. He said he enjoyed it

I think Neil Cox ended up in goal at Southampton in 1994 after we had won the League Cup as well.
