Yes, it's sad but there is a need to clear the decks; something that we have clearly done in the last two summers.

It worries me that even with the atrocious form of the senior squad not one young player has been thought good enough to be given a chance. All the money spent on developement and little to show for it.

Expect that Archer, Ramsey and several of the other "rising" 18 yr old age group players (possibly Louie Barry?) to be shipped out on loan next season.

Serves 2 purposes:

Enables the club to see if they've got what It takes.
Allows the next group of players to move up through the age groups

This is why I want to see the bigger clubs link with the smaller clubs, like Villa/Walsall, so we can loan them players and help them financially by paying the salaries.  Send them two or three of our really talented players who are not yet ready to make that step up, although, if we drop to the Championship, Barry would be in my 25.  Throw him in at the deep end.

If we go down, I would like to see a squad of 16-18 experienced players who could be relied upon and then filling the rest of the squad with young players who will get their chance at one stage or another.

This is just what happens, a senior player puts in average performance after average performance but always gets another chance, youth players get cameos at best and unless they're obviously better than the senior player they're straight back out of the side afterwards.

Yes, and it's wrong.

Derby County hardly ever played a youngster under Rowett. Now their team is packed with kids -and look at the results.

DC - maybe Lampard takes some credit for that? He has surprised me this season with Chelelsea- thought they might crash and burn, in all honesty. Terry’s got slim to no chance of getting that gig now for a while.

Lumplard played a couple, but it was mostly loan players with him.

I think last season there was pressure on Lampard to get Derby promoted. When that didn't happen I think they knew their budget would be smaller so they consciously selected a manager who could work with young players and was given the brief that he would be given time and this season was part of a bigger plan.

I hope he's staying on, Leeg.

So do I.

OCD, agree with everything in your last post. I like to think that in a year's time we'll have plenty of young players in our team, too.

Probably all depends on what league we're in. If we do go down, I would like to see the most promising ones to become a big part of the squad. If we stay up, they may be better going out on loan rather than getting the odd few minutes here and there.

He'd offer a hell of a lot more than Davis.

First pro-contract signed this morning. Well made up for him!
