We’ve had a dearth of really good keepers since Bosnich. A lot of OK ones but friedel probably the only really good one and he was way past his best by the time he got here.

Interesting that no one is rating our England keeper David James in this debate. He scared the life out of me at every corner.

When he was good, he was incredible.

Remember Gabor Kiraly?

Yes, unfortunately.
Argh!! I'd managed to put that f*****g FA cup goal to the back of my mind for over 10 years.

I don't think I've ever been angrier at a player wearing our shirt than that at that moment, not even during relegation season, the fucking clown.

I thought Sorenson was one of our better ones during his time here. Him and Friedel aside, since Bozzie we've had lots of dross between the sticks really.

I might be in a minority but I wasn't a Friedel fan. A shot stopper that didn't have a particularly good reach from what I can recall. The likes of James could claw shots away that were going in the corners. Lots of our keepers had good spells, even Sorensen, though he was far from the bravest if I recall. Carson's career unfortunately suffered badly after that England mistake. I was a big fan of Sam Johnstone the season before last, again I seem to be in a minority on that one.

Worst I can recall were last seasons crew - Nyland, Kalinic and Bunn. Poor old Bunn was genuinely awful. Gollini wasn't the bravest but did have potential. The move to Villa Park was a little early for him, good to see him realising his potential now.

Looked like someone they'd picked up from the Power League at Salford Park on the way in.

He looked like he was wearing a pair of grey velour lounge pants, the sort that a Scouse lass might wear to go to the bingo in, with a pair of worn out Uggs and her hair in curlers.

Completed his medical.

Can I briefly cut through the past goalkeeper debate to ask how one can know this? Or are you just guessing?

Ads is normally clued up.  The one exception being Joe Bryan legging it away on foot from a chasing Bruce at the Belfry last year.

ITK. Or guessing. Or believing Twatter. Or making it up. Or speculating.

Well I am happy with Tom Heaton anyway.  the only concern is if he gets injured at any stage this season or next.

Heaton's a very good addition but calling £9m for a 33 year old with 1 year left on his contract a bargain is going way too far for me. I think he's a good signing and I'm ok with the price but I think it's probably about right for the current market.

I'd also hold off a little on the comparisons with previous keepers. If he gets close to being the standard Bosnich or Spink were for us then great, if he matches Freidel or Sorensen then that'll do for me.

He doesn’t, he’s read it elsewhere then presents someone else’s views/opinions/news as his own facts.
