On this basis, if SJM maintains this level of commitment, he is going to be a very very big name in the PL.

Keeping him may be a problem at season end.

The good thing about having very rich owners AND lots of Premier League revenue is that we don't have to sell anyone unless we get relegated or there is a release clause.

See Leicester who can comfortably hold on to their players or demand over the top dollar for them.  Even Palace can hold out for stupid money for partly proven players.

That’s the most John McGinn goal I’ve ever seen.

My only concern with these friendlies is the opposition have barely carried a threat so we haven’t been tested at all at the back.

I tend to agree. I know Leipzig will be a tough test but I do worry slightly that we’ve barely been tested yet whereas Spurs have already played Juventus and Man Utd.

It’s a minor gripe though as in recent years we’ve usually looked shite in pre season regardless of opposition so this is quite refreshing.

Just flicked through some of the game on YouTube. I know it's only a friendly, but the second goal from McGinn is just ridiculous, absolute class. I know he's never gonna be prolific, but I really like Davis, offers strength and great hold up play, would really help all the busy players around him, I wouldn't loan him out.

Davis is our modern day Heaney.  I don’t think he will ever be prolific but does a load of good work.

Sorry, you've lost me, who is this Heaney you speak of?

Agree there. He is definitely that type of striker and I think if he can weigh in with 10+ goals and carry on supplying other goal scorers he’ll be a really useful player. But at the moment he doesn’t seem to have either an eye for goal or an instinct for getting into the right positions to score so I really hope we are working overtime on coaching that side of his game.

I really like him and I hope he makes it as a PL player, fwiw I think he will.

Heaney! Don't you remember his prolific partnership with Andrew Greaves?

He'll fit in. Interesting that all the new Egyptian Villans watching on YouTube were commenting how he's better on the left side.

He’ll get much fitter and better and what will be great is to see him switch wings with AEG. Or as a threat off the bench. But right at this minute I’d rather have Jota start. He’s been terrific in pre season

Jota has really surprised me.  Cracking player, regardless of the opposition, will be interesting to see how her performs in the Prem but he seems an absolute steel.  I like the mentality of press press press and, against, despite the opposition, this is a great habit to have going in to the new season as we will take no crap and will take the game to the opposition.  You get the feeling that Villa are now just their to make the numbers up and won't be overawed by anyone.  I would like another three signings, keeper, forward and another deeper lying midfielder.  I'm not convinced that we are in for Nakamba but we will be a bit vulnerable if Luiz is out of the side.
