That we will get £25m plus two bit part players with no real  pedigree for a player who played an integral part of a top 4 side.  If the shoe was on the other foot and we were getting Mac Allister for Iroebugnam, Kellyman and £25M we'd piss ourselves laughing.

I wouldn't touch this Argentinian player with a barge pole. Sounds like a plan D and we'll get ripped off.

What on earth are you basing that on?

I mean the club he was on loan with literally just alikened him to playing like Rijkaard at AC Milan, in a struggling side in Serie A. So he must be proper shite.

I would agree, had the 2 we are getting played as little at top level as the 2 you mention. 1 just played a full season in Serie A and was wanted by Napoli this summer, the other we tried to buy in Jan for similar money as being mentioned in the make weight and has been in and out of the Juve side this season.

I can't say I followed Frosinone all that closely, but he strikes me as more technically gifted than McKennie, so that's good.

Plus, unclear to me why the best midfielder in a side relegated from the PL is fine, but the best midfielder in a side relegated from Serie A - who happens to be a decade younger - is bad.

Given Emery’s willingness to go without previously rather than getting a body in for the sake of it, you’ve got to presume they’ll only sanction folk they want.

Russ said it all. I’d never condone the alleged Monchi assault on Isco that resulted in him leaving Sevilla, but he does sound like someone who won’t suffer fools gladly.
(Was tempted to leave the autocorrect of “won’t suffer fools Gladys” but no idea what punathon that would KO!)

I read it slightly differently - whilst agreeing that PSR is shit, and a mechanism that allows clubs that have been financially dodgy in the past to try to block the progress of clubs, like the Villa, that will challenge their current dominance.

I think all the noise about different players is coming from Juve and reflects their desperation to sign Luiz. I think Monchi is a better international operator than we have ever had and far less likely to get bullied - by Juve or anyone else.

It's a shame that a quality player, so much a part of what we have achieved in the last two years, looks like he has to move because of PSR, but I trust Monchi, Emery, et al to get the best deal possible for us. UTV.

The being a decade older has meant Barkley is proven in the PL and has had a kick up the arse to get his career back on track so we might just be getting him at his peak for a relative pittance.

I'm still not sure about us signing him. But although your comparison is a good soundbyte, it's a bit tabloid.

I think just reading what scouts, articles etc have said about this kid suggests he's got a bit more about him than I think some are crediting. He's not going to replace Doug, but if he gives an option to rotate Kamara and be anywhere close to filling that hole, we are already better off.

'Proven in the PL' is probably the first phrase an AI trained on The S*n would churn out, to be fair!

There's plenty of people moaning about us signing Barkley. Thankfully we've got 2 of the best judges of a player in the game making our decisions.

To my mind, our best midfield is three out of four of Luiz, Kamara, Mcginn and Tielemans. Tim and Dendoncker are back-ups that Emery doesn't rate. Barkley and Enzo replace Tim and Dendoncker and will (hopefully) do a better job of covering Kamara. That leaves the big issue being who replaces Luiz. I reckon we'll see someone coming in (eg Baena) after 1 July.

I think what it proves is you can run with whatever narrative you want to make it fit your opinion
Let’s be honest I do it, we all do it

Plus there have been plenty of mentions over the last two days that Juve really didn't want to include him in the deal initially, but have done reluctantly now McKennie is playing up.

I was really just wondering what the difference was between Barkley and young Enzo there. If you don't want either, I mean, fair enough, but to want one and not the other as I'm certain some do (in whichever direction) strikes me as a bit bizarre.
