I suspect he might start on Saturday and in an 8 position with Kamara anchoring. I don't think we'll revert to a double pivot.

That's the position most of us think is his best. His range of passing you'd think would be an improvement on what we saw Saturday, albeit that's a low bar.

He's a very good player and his best years are in front of him.

I think a lot of posters here are looking for things to fault him for during games - if something wrong happens and he was on the ball 3 passes before, "FFS DOUG!", I see him as a player never shirking away from being available for a pass and doesn't slow down our moves. Does the odd brain farts, which are extremely frustrating, but I like him as a player.

Much as I like Ramsey and hope he has a bright future, both him and McGinn have really poor passing stats.  Doug hasn't been given much time at 8, but with Kamara behind him I think he may be able to move the ball quicker and more accurately than the other two.

If we're honest, Ramsey hasn't really shone since the last quarter of last season and should probably have been taken out the team for Sanson - but that's another debate.  Much as he is a Gerrard favourite, now Doug is freed up from his DM duties I wouldn't be surprised if Ramsey's minutes are managed more this season.  I know why many thing Doug is average, but I'm quietly confident he can grow into a very decent 8 for us.

Whe did he last have a game where he came off and you thought he played really well though? I'm with Chicago, he's bang average. He was bought as a defensive midfielder but is rubbish at it, so people then say he should be played further forward, but he's mostly rubbish at that as well. All he really does is sit in the middle and play simple little passes, which is a skill I guess, but not really enough to be honest. Then there are the mistakes and giving the ball away, which reduces his overall contribution even further. I don't mind him, but he's another like Mings and McGinn who needs replacing.

Doug's a Brazilian version of Harry Winks, technically tidy and busy. Like most of his midfield  teammates he's just too small to add the physical presence our midfield really needs. I still think he's worth retaining though.

Not a player I would be overly concerned about if he left.  A bit lightweight in my view but he does show some good touches though not enough I feel.
The idea may be to let him move sometime in the next 12 months or so and we can get a higher fee.
I was rather hoping  we might get £20m for him now, in which case I would seize the moment and indeed the money.

A bit of a plodder I think. Will be delighted to be proved wrong.
Very early days but we certainly do not want a repeat of last seasons form.

If he goes - "fuck him he was no good any way"

Signs a new deal - "why have we done that?  He is not that good - average at best"

We really are hard to please arnt we?

Not hard to please, just shows he divides opinion.

Don't both those statements back each other up, that the general contentious is that Dougie isint that good?

He does. I think he's one of those players that would comfortably hold his place in a better side though. He has had more moments in the Premier league of quality than McGinn has since we came up for me.

This is his 4th year with us, how long does the description 'promising' last?

Until 11 March 2023. At tea-time.

He’s just turned 24, it’s not outrageous to say he’s promising is it?

He’s a solid 7/10 performer who can get much better.

He has I think he’s a better option than McGinn.

I like him and again feel he's done better when playing a little further forward rather than as a 6 because he's bit as good at breaking the play up. I reckon he'll do well at some point. Depending on how he's used.

He's one that you could see actually breaking through to become a key player.
