If we get JWP i cannot see where Luiz gets a game to be honest - certainly not as a regular

I'd be pleasantly surprised if we sign JWP.If we did ,a midfield trio of Luiz,McGinn and JWP would enable us to press high up the park ,each one capable of winning the ball and being comfortable in possession.
The one who misses out could be Sanson.I think that was the plan behind Sanson's signing. No out and out DM but everyone chipping in and moving the ball quickly.See Italy as a role model, albeit with a back 3,Jorginho the deepest of their midfield but not exactly an enforcer.

Called up to Olympic squad. He's gonna be fucking knackered when the season starts. Feel they should have called him up for Copa America or the Olympics, not both. Still hope he does well though.

This is very interesting. I think he's the captain of the Olympic squad, something he really wants to be involved in. I got the feeling we weren't too keen on his involvement during the season. My reading of it is okay, we'll let him go but don't be too upset if you come back and find yourself on the bench for a few months. Probable new contract but we'll listen to offers. Club before country every time. As Dean Smith mentioned, 'strategic'.

It would be fairly cool to have a Gold Medal winning captain at the club, to be fair.

Fair enough if he wants to captain his country in the Olympics. He'll need a break after that so I'd expect him to be very much a bit part player up to Xmas.

I'd imagine he'll be back in training much later than the others and maybe miss the August games. Don't see why he needs to miss many more matches than that.

The Olympics only lasts two and a bit weeks even if they make the medal matches and he is only playing in the Copa America tonight because they're already through, unlikely to feature much in the knockout stages. Could be wrong, as he's playing we'll tonight. Maybe he will force his way in.

Starts for Brazil v Germany today, kick off is at 12:30 and you can watch it on iPlayer if you're working from home you've got the day off work.

Brazil have been superb so far, 3-0 up and could easily be more, ripping Germany to bits.

Should be 5 by half time. Cunha missed a penalty and another sitter after Richarlison's hat trick.

The Brazilian goalkeeper should be investigated for that goal. Even I’d have saved it.

I still rate Doug.

Last year people were talking him up as our next big thing and shitting themselves that City would buy him back.  After a fairly middling season he's dropped off the radar a bit, but there's no doubt if he can get back to his very best form we still have a cracking player on our hands.  I'm stiil not sure he's the long term anwer to our DM role, maybe a more advanced box to box role will really bring the best out of him, although that puts hum squarely in competition with McGinn and Sanson I guess.

What are your thoughts on Doug and how we can get the best out of him?

What's the craic with the players representing their countries at the Olympics? I always thought it was U23's with a couple of older players allowed. But it seems Brazil are fielding quite a strong team. What about Germany/France etc. - are there poor bastards who played at the Euros slogging themselves through the Olympics too?
