Douglas Luiz - coming back?

I’m struggling to think of a reason why they wouldn’t exercise the option given he’s clearly worth a lot more than £25m now.

The only other thing that would possibly make more sense is them doing it next year when he’s got another PL season under his belt and the risk of an injury or catastrophic loss of form has been reinsured. This is a very one sided arrangement but then he kept us up without costing us anything so we’ve done OK I guess.

Well, except for the £15m we paid for him and £2m in wages...

Which we more than get back if they buy him for £25m.

He was great after the lockdown, but bang average beforehand.

He's played well in a dozen games for a struggling club. It's a huge leap from that to playing for Man City, even in the unlikely event that they select him.

Whatever happens, we can't control it but we need to have a contingency in the event that he goes.

I keep hearing about the buy back clause and the possibility of City maybe buying him back to on sell.

One of the football podcasts was talking about the "defensive" midfield position at Citeh being one of the most demanding in the PL, that very few can do it properly and how they suffered through having to drop Fernandinho back to central defence and it being Rodri's first season here. Rather than sell him on maybe they think Doug can provide cover there.

Interesting. I wonder how new contract/personal terms would interact with the buy back clause if at all? I would assume, possibly wrongly, that it would need to be bought out as part of any change to the existing contract.
