He's a very talented player. He is also young and inexperienced. He is far from poor.

Very clearly.

Not sure if this has been posted before but it makes for good reading and suggests defensive mid is not his strength (which I think was already pretty obvious)...

Different type of player, but I almost guarantee Douglas will follow a similar path to Adama Traore. In a couple of years he will be top drawer, but he needs to be coached correctly and played in the right way. Let’s hope unlike Adama we get it right with Douglas and he’s brilliant for us.

"And when he goes to the sides, one thing he likes to do and does very well is to play long diagonal balls to the other side of the pitch"

Clearly demonstrated on Saturday.

He's definitely got the ability, he just hasn't been used in a way that brings the best out of him. A constantly changing midfield three doesn't help either.

It can be easy to put all the blame on Smith but Luiz hasn't helped himself at times this season. There is a reason why Smith keeps changing the midfield duo/trio as that all of them play themselves out of the team eventually. Luiz is no exception, that effort at stopping Traore against Wolves stands out as particularly inept but he cost us the equaliser v Leicester only a week ago too.

Clearly talented when given time and space, an ideal sub v Brighton at the time as they retreated, but has an awful lot of improving to do. His application without the ball is nowhere near good enough for this level.

The key for a youngish player such as Luiz whether starting or coming off the bench, is to back it up now with another good performance and if not a full blooded effort.

Changed the last two games; with the pass last week, and the goal this.

Great celebration. That passion is sorely needed. As noted above I think there is a real player in there, he's still learning his position and probably isn't being helped by Smith's strange rotation of midfielders. Certainly shouldn't be benched for Drinkwater's benefit; needs to start v Bournemouth.

Delighted with his assist on Saturday and goal tonight but would be even happier if he can start putting his 20/30 minutes cameo into a full 90 minutes shift. Am sure it will materialise in the fullness of time.

You're seeing it all wrong. Luiz is fucked after an hour, but coming on when the game is stretched he's a player, and it's winning us points.
