i don't think their playing career should preclude them from being a good pundit/analyst to be honest. granted, Bothroyd is a bit meh but others like Warnock, Rosenior (before he went weird at Chelsea) are pretty insightful. A stellar career doesn't make you a good manager. neither does it make you a good pundit

When you land on a good one like Konsa you do all you can to keep him, he could still be here in 6 years, same goes with Watkins and Martinez, their value to the team far outweighs the monetary value.

I get we are in a strange era, but if we’re cashing in the home grown kids and anyone getting close to 30 we’re going to be rebuilding every other season.

None of us know how much money we need to satisfy whatever UEFA or the Premier League desire, but I’m assuming the club know, doesn’t cashing in all your chips in one financial year knacker you up in future years?

I agree with the general point; Martinez, Watkins and McGinn will not attract anywhere near enough to buy replacements so should be kept, however £64m for Konsa (if true) is not in that bracket.

I get the emotion but 60m or anything north of 50m for him with 2 years left we are not going to ignore. I know it is shit but that is current reality. Even if we weren't competing that is money we wouldn't turn down.

I said before only McGrath is better than him and he is on a par with a half a dozen other in the last 45 years or so for me.

We rebuilt after 1977-1979 with a similar single-minded manager and can do so again with this one. We can manage the shit storm to an extent or we can watch it wash over us like Newcastle did.

That sort of money can be a catalyst.  Pain now, but the “£40m replacement” will be fill the void eventually. And £24m can be used to pay off the bean counters.  Yes it’s shit but we have to bridge the financial gap somehow and that means taking opportunities when they arise*.

*I’d be amazed if arsenal actually offer £64m.
