Great servant and understated leader, a very good player currently at his peak who would be hard to replace.

But with two years on his contract, for £64m, you'd have to sell and back the club to find a replacement for the next five years.

Not sure that’s the benchmark price for a champions league quality centre back. Especially if we want someone younger and as good as Konsa. Also probably harder when teams know you’ve just had a cash windfall. I suspect we will hang on to Konsa and develop his replacement

Take your point, though personally, my opinion is coloured by the fact that (i) he wants to go (by all accounts) and (ii) we'd probably only be able to keep him for another year, unless he signs a new contract.

Without the new contract (on terms we can afford), keeping him might ultimately prove counter productive.

So it's that or £64m and back ourselves in the market.

His financial value might never be higher, but we’ve lost 2 (presumably soon to be 3) key players. His value to us as a critical player is greater than the money we’d receive. If Rogers, Tielemans, and Digne hadn’t gone then maybe it’s a more difficult choice. But, for me, he’s a must not sell.
