Taylor is a strictly Championship level player.  We urgently need an upgrade because he's by far the weakest of the subs we have.  If Targett is out for any length of time I'd play either Mings or Hause at left back instead, like we did with Konsa at right back after the restart last year.
I'd stick Mings there, especially given how good Hause looked at centre half. I reckon he'd enjoy it as well, and would be quite handy.
Not a bad shout.
When does Taylor's contract expire?

At the end of the season I think.

I used to wince when he was up against any pacy, tricky wide playesr ie the likes of Salah, Adama Traore and Sterling etc.  This season, they've all been in his pocket along with Matt's car keys, some lint and half a packet of chewing gum.

There were at least 3 or 4 moments when I shouted well done, brilliant, great etc as he intervened or played a good ball and to think he was stupid scary not so long ago. Our and Premier League's most improved player this season.

I agree he's the most improved player in our squad even though I liked him last season, he has taken his game too the next level.

Its just dawned on me that we could realistically keep this settled back line together for a good 6/7 years if we choose too.

And more, playing till they're 40 like the Milan lads.

How good is Matt Targett at the moment! I have complete confidence in him where headers and tackles are concerned and he seems to have developed extra pace to his game. That's without mentioning his attacking strengths. Watching him last night I wondered whether Soton regretted selling him for what appears to be a bargain price now. Keep up the good work Matt!7

He's not the player they sold though. Our coaching staff and him being a regular has really allowed him to develop. Credit to the recruitment and coaching staff for seeing something in him that we didn't. I don't know anyone who didn't think we had overpaid for him at 17m. A lot of our players kicked on after lockdown but he's really kicked on since the start of the season. He's become a fantastic player and deserves to be in the conversation for an England call-up, along with Konsa.

He'll be in the England squad soon. Cash is going to struggle simply for the level of competition. Think there's just Chilwell on the left?

Saka too. Shaw maybe. Targett and Saka are certainly better than playing the right footed Trippier there.

Cash needs crossing practice, too many poor ones.

Our most improved player this season and probably not far off in the league in general

I doubt there's a player in the PL that has improved so much in a season as Targett. He looked the biggest waste of money last season, a defender that couldn't defend. This season defending is his greatest asset, so focused and rarely beat or out of position. That has come at the expense of his attacking game where he's not getting forward as must as he used to but he still manages to get up there when the opportunity arises. Big difference is, now he can work both effectively.

Like Cash, he needs to work on his crossing. Too often he just just pumps it in the box without looking to see who is available. Do that and we'll have the best left back in the country. His ball to Jack in the lead up to the goal was poetry in motion, so perfectly measured Jack never had to break stride, just hit it first time. As fluid as it gets.
