is he a fatty now i didn’t notice ?

Well I’d be happy to have his gut but he’s not as toned as you would expect a professional athlete to be.

Ridiculous if he has let himself go over the summer, injury or not.

Yep. Ratboy going obviously could affect his game as much as anyone’s, but I think the real issue might be as simple as this.

Enjoyed his summer off, came back carrying too much timber. Really disappointing if so as he was still picking up his £40k per week (or whatever) over the summer.

Smith has said he was in a boot for the first 6 weeks of the summer so I don't think it's fair to suggest it's a lack professionalism, more just a consequence of an injury coinciding with being away from the club.

I'm still a massive fan of Targett, but I'd be starting Young again on Saturday.

Yup. Fortunately we have that luxury. Targett obviously needs time to recover and rediscover his fitness. He should be back to the real Matt Targett after the international break.

Targett played almost every minute of last season - to doubt if he's in shape or not is a bit strange - you don't get through a 38 game season without being at your peak.

It doesn’t take long to pile on a few pounds though.

I wasn't sure if Targett had lost focus due to being a newly wed and/or was all luved up?! But a quick internet search later it looks as though he just proposed during the off season.

Maybe he's distracted organising a wedding? I've heard these things can be stressful and can take a bit of organising?

He could do with six weeks in a boot camp now.

For all his improvements last season and they were much improved I feel he's been found wanting this.
Specialist in the wing back mode and 3-5- 2 he ain't.
He also no way near impacting the attacking play in reasonable manner and has been our left sided attacker now and main player on that side if pitch which has left me feeling frustrated
That feeling is because he doesn't have the tools to get goals and assists yet has been afforded that space on the pitch and has been letting the side down

Good luck him but doesn't have the where with all and abilities including athletic to get up and down as wing back as well as the worry he gets into when in the box

You obviously didn't watch the Man U game then. He was great.

He's shown next to no signs of becoming a wing back. Wing backs can cross a ball for a start and Targett rarely beats the first man even with all the time and space in the world. He had a very good game by his recent standards against the Plastics last weekend but that was more down to his defending. The less said about his miss from 2 yards the better. Shit happens. He got himself in the goalscoring position which is a big positive.

Like El Ghazi I'll give him a pass until he's fully up to speed. As others of said he was injured during the summer.

I'm talking in an attacking capacity.
He was far from great. And he missed a great chance which could have cost us.
I just don't see him as much offer if flair in attack
I think he is more than  useful at left back but wing back I don't think he's suited
Deeply lacking in attacking play. But that just my view.
Cash was a winger so he knows how to attack and play Hugh up the pitch can't be said same for MT

Last season he improved as the season went on, he is getting back to his best form again.
