Are there any players who haven't seen pre-season action yet ?Tish ? Is he still around ?
A packed Arden Garages Stadium saw another fine skillful encounter as these pre-season friendlies begin to define the season ahead. For Stratford the signs are most encouraging as they matched the undoubted talent and endeavour of a squad of Villa under 23 starlets.A Liam Hughes goal thumped home with conviction from close range following good work by Chris Cox was all that separated the two teams in the end although there were chances and scares galore at both ends.Debutant Hughes was to have an impressive game linking well with fellow striker, Nabil Shariff, and as the target man for every Town corner. It was Stratford who was first to press as early as the third minute as a Cox cross was met by Hughes whose header was turned over the bar by keeper, Sinisalo.Impressing for Villa were Mungo Bridge with pace, touch and vision at the heart of the defence and the tricky and direct Indiana Vassilev on the left. For Town Lomax was outstanding in goal, Tom Fishwick stood tall in defence and Lewis Wilson a calm and authoritative presence in his link play. Captain, Kynan Isaac, gave another cool and measured performance. In a first half of constant action Dimitri Sea played through Vassilev who missed badly one on one. At the other end a Cox cross caused panic and nearly an own goal before the keeper pounced to clear up.The second saw changes for both sides and although the game lost some of its intensity it remained an interesting encounter to the end. Shaun Rowley replaced Lomax and was to impress. Joel Gyasi was strong and forceful on the right and Dylan Parker looked lean, sharp and hungry and ready for the fight. A feature of the second half was the quality of James Hancocks’ corners causing the Villa backline much concern. The game was well managed to the end by the Town boys under the watchful eye of manager, Tommy Wright, who must have been delighted.Attendance: 873
