Top man. Didn’t realise he was here for as long as 5 seasons or forgot he played at centre half at the end. Great interview

Well what a breath of fresh air that interview was. Really down to earth, shows he loves the villa and great to hear all that reminiscing .
Really enjoyed, has there been others in that series of ex player interviews ?

Nice one Dion.

It's easy to forget how good some of our players were in that era.  We really should have won something.

I think he needed to come off the fence about Balaban...

He was a good player and he also comes across as a very decent person. I reckon you could have a very enjoyable evening chewing the fat with him and there wouldn't be any airs and graces from him at all.

I loved his honesty re Balaban, but  was intrigued that he didn't really want to be here. I thought at the time the Premier league was the holy grail for foreign players. Probably the biggest waste of money in our history.

Love Dion, a Leicester lad like myself, absolutely loves us, a good family friend who gave my dad and I free tickets for his debut. One of my favourite Villa games and one of my favourite Villa players.

I had a couple of drinks with him once in my local bar when I lived in Tenerife. The Coventry team were out there on a mid season break as they had been knocked out of the FA Cup. A mate of mine called Stevo was crashing at my apartment for a while until he found a place of his own and he was a Leicester lad. Stevo knew Dion's Dad who apparently was a taxi driver in Leicester so he was chatting to Dublin about all the times his Dad had driven him home from a certain nightclub. 'Crystals' rings a bell, but it was a long time ago so I might be wrong.

Haha. Krystals. I remember it well, though I think I only went once when I was about 13 and got an almighty bollocking from my mum. 'You're underage/have you been smoking?/it's Tuesday night' etc etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stevo and my dad in fact knew each other. It isn't the biggest of places, Leicester.

I hope you and the family are well, mate.

Remember when he first came and seemed to score 2 or 3 goals in his first 4-5 games for us, surprised he didn't actually get to 20 league goals in 98/99. "Dion Dublin in the air" being sung every game by the Holte.

Lost his effectiveness after the bad neck injury although ironically he did have a good season in 2002/03, before the Savage headbutt at least.

Certainly one of those ex Villa players I struggle to say a bad word about.

All comes down to the cup final in 2000. That was our moment, we simply froze and after all the good players wanted to leave and we slipped from an established top 6 club to treading water for many years after.

Dion was great, not Brian Little or Andy Gray but someone you knew would put a shift in and score his fair share. Not sure about the TV stuff though....
