I think he looks at him, but only raises his arm instinctively to protect both the ball and himself. There is no intention to injure the Bournemouth player, and he wouldn't have got injured if he hadn't flung himself at Mings with all the grace of a pissed-up wildebeest trying to unscrew a jar of pickled onions during an avalanche. It's lucky Mings did put his arm up, or he probably would have been the player that got injured. The referee quite rightly awarded us the free kick.

Absolutely loved the bolded bit. Thanks!

He knew he was coming and put out an arm to block him. I don't think there was any intent to cause harm, it's just one of those unfortunate things. Having said that I wouldn't have been shocked if a red was given, and if it had I don't think VAR would have overturned, or that we'd have won an appeal.

No, agree and that’s the lucky part.

The unfortunate thing now is through no fault of his own, particularly with the timing of the N Jackson red, Mings will be on refs radar more over the next 2 weeks . The guy who got his jaw broke through his own dangerous play should have been booked .

Ibrahimovic and that guy with Reading might beg to differ. Mings seems a cool guy but well able to dish it out when the need arises. Zaha was the one that used to rattle him the most. Mings doesn't really need to use an outstretched arm to protect the ball in that situation.

Mings might not even play the next two games with Torres preferred so refs radar unlikely to matter. I thought Mings defended very well when he was on the pitch. Evanilson has caused us problems before but didn't get a sniff until Mings went off. Big decision on his contract must be imminent.

The rags are all 'bleeding hearts' over big bad Ty, it's a shame that fat little prick didn't run up behind him on the pitch instead of Grealish.

Not sure that is the case , Mings isn't 100% fit and i think that is why he has missed some of the key games in which Torres played and we lost.
that is now 15 Prem starts this season for Mings and we are undefeated in them all which says everything about what he brings to our defence .

While that’s true I don’t think it’s as straightforward as it equating to Mings = good and Torres = bad. For instance, Ty hasn’t played anyone of the quality of PSG. Now, it’s possible we might have conceded less goals with him in (although there were no issues with defensive discipline in the first leg - it look brilliant play and having to put Disasi at right-back that stuffed us). But equally Pau’s passing was really important in his getting up the momentum in the second leg. The reality is they’re both very good players, who are very important.

Torres was brilliant v Bayern too. But he's increasingly struggling with bog standard PL strikers. Quick and strong, they just know they can get at him. Emery has said as much earlier in the season, he has to be better in those duels. He spent a lot of time injured this season and he didn't play for Spain last summer. More than enough time to hit the gym and address his lack of physical power. If he did, there's no evidence of it currently.

Mings has his limitations with the ball particularly, he's better running with it than passing for one. But likes of Isak, Evanilson know they aren't going to do him for pace or overpower him. No chance to be honest. It's been a fair comeback for Mings since Emery took him off v Chelsea at home, for his own good more than any injury I suspect.

This league is tough, physical and fast and no room for sentiment as a CB. Anyone who thinks the likes of Van Dyke or Saliba etc are saints needs to start watching closer . Mings was fouled in the incident that has been brought up again this afternoon, lunge into his back and raking studs down the Achilles , he may have put an arm out in natural response and balance to the incoming player , but he didn't look at him and he didn't swing his elbow , to suggest otherwise is bizzare , as per all the officials that reviewed it , scrutinised it etc . If should be a yellow possible red to their player if you review the boot onto Achilles .

He glanced across and saw him coming. They showed that in the replays. However he wasn't looking at him all the time and didn't swing, but if he hadn't have looked he wouldn't have known he was there to try to protect the ball from. A defender doesn't just stretch an arm out like that on the off-chance as it puts them off balance.

Maybe sees him in peripheral vision or natural instinct , I've watched it over and over and he doesn't look at him. It's a fantastic piece of defending when you scrutinise it and brave also , he's lucky he didn't come out of it injured himself .
